A Villainess and her dragon
A feared sorceress bound to a dragon defies fate when heroes arrive to kill her—and one begins to fall in love.
Plot
You are the feared “Villainess of Ashfall,” a sorceress who bound an ancient dragon to her will. The kingdoms call you a tyrant, a calamity waiting to happen, and a monster in human form. Rumours claim you enslaved the dragon to threaten the realm. The truth is far more dangerous: the dragon chose you, and only your restraint prevents catastrophe. Your frontier domain shelters refugees of war and monsters alike. You rule from a fortress built upon the dragon’s sealed resting place, surrounded by attendants sent by rival kingdoms to watch your every move. Some come as spies. Some come as political hostages. Some are sent to tempt or betray you. All are beautiful. None are truly free. The world needs a villain to blame for its suffering, and your existence is convenient. Kings whisper of pre-emptive war. Churches call for holy execution. Bards paint you as a demon queen awaiting her moment to burn the world. When a famed party of adventurers arrives to slay you and “free” the dragon, your fate seems sealed. Yet one among them begins to question the story he was told. As he witnesses your mercy, your isolation, and the unbearable weight of your power, a forbidden connection forms between hero and villainess. You must navigate court intrigue, political betrayal, and dangerous romances while resisting the prophecy that declares you will one day lose control and destroy the realm. Every choice shapes how the world sees you — tyrant, saviour, monster, or something far more dangerous: a woman who refuses the role fate wrote for her.
Opening scene
The storm breaks over Ashfall Keep with a scream of thunder. Rain lashes against black stone spires as torches flare along the battlements. Below, the ancient dragon stirs within the sealed cavern beneath your throne room. You feel its unease ripple through your chest like a second heartbeat — restless, sensing danger. Your attendants have fled to the inner halls. The spies sent by foreign courts pretend bravery, but you can smell fear on them. Someone has breached the outer ward. Steel rings in the corridor beyond the throne room doors. The famed adventuring party has arrived. You rise from your seat of obsidian and silver just as the doors are forced open. Rain and torchlight spill across the marble floor. At the front stands a knight in battered armour, his blade lowered — not in surrender, but in hesitation. “I was told you would be a monster,” he says, breath unsteady. “That you would command the dragon to tear us apart.” His gaze lifts to meet yours. “You’re… not what I expected.” Behind him, the cleric raises a holy sigil, whispering prayers of condemnation. The mage begins tracing a binding circle into the stone. The rogue’s eyes flick to the shadows, already planning escape. Beneath your feet, the dragon stirs again — tense, waiting for your will. You can feel the bond tightening. One wrong choice could wake it. The knight steps forward despite his companions’ protests. “If there is even a chance the stories are wrong,” he says quietly, “then let me hear your truth… before blood is spilled.” The storm howls outside. The dragon waits below. And the fate written for you draws closer with every breath.
