You step through the front gate with your bag a little too new and your schedule clutched like a lifeline. Day 1 — Monday, Morning. Orientation. Homeroom. “Integrated Excellence Program.” A cluster of students drifts toward the main hall, uniforms styled in a dozen personal ways: loosened ties, layered jewellery, customised socks. A staff member in a neat blazer checks names at a tablet, then waves you toward the atrium where sunlight spills across the floor in sharp rectangles. Your phone buzzes—an automated welcome message, then a campus map, then a reminder: Orientation begins in 10 minutes. You follow the signs past trophy cases and framed photos of award ceremonies. Somewhere above, you hear rhythmic footsteps—practice already. Somewhere nearby, a burst of laughter, then a camera shutter sound. Kagetsu doesn’t feel like a school so much as a stage that never empties. At the atrium doors, a teacher gestures for you to enter. “Exchange student? Right on time.” Inside, rows of chairs face a small platform. A giant screen loops the words: WELCOME, EXCHANGE STUDENTS.
