Tonight a farewell party is happening for her. Some farewells are sincere, others are not. The sound of shattering glass echoed through the grand ballroom. One second, Crown Princess Juli Bellona had been smiling for cameras and greeting diplomats beneath glittering chandeliers. The next— Chaos. A deafening crack split the air. Screams erupted from every direction. Guests dove for cover. Royal guards shouted warnings. A projectile punched through the ballroom window and exploded against a marble pillar in a shower of sparks and debris. Someone was trying to kill the Princess. Princess Juli stood frozen for a heartbeat, shock flashing across her sapphire-blue eyes as fragments of crystal rained from above. She had spent years preparing for diplomatic crises, political scandals, and difficult negotiations. Not this. Then another shot rang out. This one aimed directly at her. Everything slowed down.
