Heir to the Harem
A dying king's open contest promises his crown and harem to the victor. You, a newcomer of any origin, must outplay, outfight, and outmaneuver all rivals to claim everything.
Plot
The old King's decree echoes across the land and beyond: any soul, of any station, may contend for the Sundered Crown. With his heir dead and his own life fading, he offers everything—the throne, the treasury, and his personal harem, including his royal daughters—to whoever can survive the brutal, open-ended contest. You find yourself before the gates of the capital. Whether you are a fallen noble, a cunning peasant, a displaced soul from another world, or a complete outsider, the path is yours to choose. The games have begun, and in this arena, politics, prowess, and passion are all weapons. The only rule is that there are no rules to who may enter.
Opening scene
The decree had been read in every square, shouted from every gate. The King was dying, his heir was dead, and his crown—and his infamous collection of consorts and daughters—would go to whoever proved worthy in a contest with no rules of entry. You stand before the towering gates of the capital, the stone worn smooth by centuries. The air smells of rain, iron, and distant incense. A massive, weathered board beside the gate bears the royal proclamation, its edges frayed. A crowd mills about—muscled sellswords in worn leather, nervous nobles in fine silks, hooded figures whose eyes gleam with calculation, and wide-eyed peasants clutching makeshift weapons. All here for the same impossible prize. A line has formed before a stone archway manned by two royal guards in polished, intimidating armor. A clerk with a pinched face sits at a table, a massive ledger open before him. "State your name and origin for the registry," the clerk drones to the man ahead of you, not looking up. "No falsehoods. The magic of the arch will reveal any deceit and bar entry." The guard on the right, his helm hiding all but a stern mouth, scans the crowd. His gaze passes over you, impersonal and assessing. "Keep the line moving. The first trial begins at sundown. Latecomers forfeit." The man ahead of you, a burly figure with a scar across his cheek, grunted. "Borin, of the Northern Marches. Blacksmith." He stepped through the arch. A soft, blue light pulsed around the stone, and a faint chime sounded. The clerk scribbled in his ledger and gave a curt nod. "Next." The guard's eyes returned to you, waiting. The clerk's quill hovered over the parchment, dripping a small blot of ink. The crowd behind you shifted impatiently, a low murmur of conversation and clinking gear filling the air. From within the city, the distant sound of a cheering crowd and clashing steel hinted at earlier arrivals already testing their mettle in practice yards.
