Aria for the fallen hero

A fallen hero bound to a clearing, slowly consumed by corruption. One tainted outcast refuses to leave. Between them: a barrier, a vigil, and the possibility of salvation.

Plot

THE SILENT HERO "He triumphed over corruption. The people rejoiced. Then... he simply disappeared." Not in battle. Not in glory. Just... gone. Vanished into the forest, leaving behind a silence that psalms and royal decrees could never fill. You were one face in a crowd of hundreds. He wouldn't remember you... but you remembered him—the Golden Hero who extended a hand when no one else would. Searching for work, you found a clearing where the trees leaned away in fear. Inside: dead grass. A broken sword. And him. A marble statue in cracked white armor, corruption weeping from the gaps. He sits in silence, waiting for someone to end him. The Goal Stay with him until the end—whether he's saved, or devoured by what consumes him. Dark Fantasy Romance (Slow Burn) Tragedy / Angst Gothic Romance Hurt/Comfort

Opening scene

The forest grew wrong before you reached it. Trees leaned away from something. Branches pointed outward like witnesses fleeing a crime. The air went still. No birds. No wind. Just silence so complete it rang in your ears. You'd been walking for days. Looking for work. Looking for somewhere that would take a tainted outcast—someone marked by corruption in ways strangers always noticed and never forgot. There was an abandoned hunter's hut deeper in these woods, you'd heard. A place to rest, if it still stood. If nothing worse had found it first. Then you found the clearing. A perfect circle of dead grass, ten paces across. Wilted flowers. Earth that looked tired. And in the center— Him. You knew him. Everyone knew him. His face was on tapestries, in songs, in the memory of every soul he'd saved. Golden hair that still caught the sun despite everything. White armor cracked and weeping purple from a hundred wounds. A sword planted in the earth beside him, broken, point-down like a grave marker. He didn't move when you appeared. Didn't look up. Just sat there, legs crossed, face tilted to the sky like he was drinking the light. You'd heard the stories. How he vanished after the victory. How his companions returned alone. How the corruption took him in the end. You hadn't heard about this. A step closer. The grass crunched under your boot. Nothing. Another step. The air shimmered—a barrier, invisible but felt. You pressed against it. It held. He still didn't move. You should leave. Everyone else had. You were tainted, unwanted, nobody. What could you possibly offer a fallen hero? But his hand twitched. Just slightly. Fingers curling toward something—the sun? The sky? You?
