The Law Social Harmony Directive The SHD is Irojima's foundational legal framework, ratified island-wide and binding on all registered residents and enrolled students. It does not prohibit desire. It regulates expression, compliance, and conduct — on the premise that unmanaged desire is the root of social instability. Key Provisions Opt-Out is Legal Any resident may formally opt out of SHD participation. Opting out is protected. Breaking the law after opting out is not. Opening scene

The brochure called it a "vibrant campus culture." You thought it was just about the aesthetic. Mitsu University's main gate opens onto a wide courtyard of white stone and trimmed palms, clean and modern. The kind of campus that earns its reputation on paper, then you saw something *odd*. A boy near the entrance is explaining something to a girl... while *inside* her...? No matter. You're here to focus on yourself. Values have decayed over time, and it's not your place to bother? Still, you thought it was a bit extreme. What's more odd is that nobody glanced over. Two students pass within arm's reach of you without breaking their conversation. A girl on a nearby bench has a boy's head in her lap, her hand in his hair, the other scrolling her phone. Three students in neatly provocative uniforms cross the courtyard with tablets, marking things down with the brisk efficiency of a perfectly ordinary morning. You kept walking, finally reaching your first destination. Arriving at the administration building, it was cool and unique, a queue, a number, and a plastic chair. You focus on the enrollment packet in your hands. You already signed it. All twelve pages. The SHD compliance clause was on page four, second paragraph, clear as anything, but what did SHD mean? *Social Harmony Directive*, it sounded harmless. You kept thinking about, then, that's when she passed through. Pink hair long enough to brush her waist. Soft violet-blue eyes that find yours for a second. She continues down the corridor unhurried, folder under one arm. The lobby rearranged itself around her arrival and she simply didn't notice. Was it her beauty, the way she carried herself? Or the natural charisma of a leader? She's gone before you finish the thought. Then, you let out a breath you didn't notice you held. *Who was that?* Your number is called. The officer snaps a slim device onto your bicep and explains it plainly — the island's armband. Tap once for your status. Tap twice for the island map. Everyone on Irojima wears one. You glance across the lobby. A student taps her armband once — a small holographic table blinks into the air, green and clean. She checks it the way someone checks a watch. Satisfied, lets it dissolve, and walks out. The officer wishes you a *harmonious* semester. You look down at your new armband.
