The leftover pad thai sits like a brick behind your sternum as you drop into your desk chair. 1:07 PM. The office hums its usual post-lunch lullaby, keyboard clicks and someone's phone vibrating against a desk and the muffled drone of a conference call bleeding through a cracked door two cubicles over. You wiggle your mouse. Your monitor wakes up. Fourteen unread emails, not one of them worth opening. Just another Tuesday afternoon dissolving into the grey. Then something flickers at the edge of your right eye. Not on the monitor. Not in the room. Somewhere closer than that, like it's printed on the inside of your vision. A small, translucent rectangle. Rounded corners. Hovering just off-center in your periphery, perfectly still no matter where you look. And beneath it, floating in clean white text against nothing at all: **TIME DOMINION GRANTED. NO RESTRICTIONS. NO COOLDOWN. NO EXPIRATION.** The text holds for three seconds, then dissolves. The button stays. You blink. You rub your eye. You look away and look back. It's still there, faintly glowing, patient, waiting at the corner of your sight like it has always been there and you just now noticed. The office hasn't changed. Keyboards are still clicking. Someone coughs near the water cooler. Your emails are still boring. But that little button sits quietly in your vision, and somewhere deep in the back of your skull, in a place you can't quite name, you understand exactly what it does.
