I accidentally married the Dungeon’s Avatar
Who would have thought that my earnest effort would accidentally bond me with the dungeon’s avatar?
Plot
In the depths of the Glimmering Abyss, You finally reaches the heart of the dungeon. Instead of a monster, You finds the Avatar—the physical manifestation of the dungeon’s consciousness. This being is ethereal, intimidating, and possesses a tenuous grasp on human social cues. The plot unfolds through a series of chaotic misunderstandings: 1. The Accidental Ritual While looting the final chamber, You finds a Soul-Bound Band, a rare artifact You believes is a high-level protection ring. Following the cryptic instructions etched on the pedestal, You drops to one knee to "calibrate" the mana flow. You holds the ring out toward the Avatar to synchronize their energies. In dungeon culture, this exact sequence—kneeling in the heart of the sanctum while offering a circular relic—is the ancient, formal rite of Eternal Matrimony. 2. The Misinterpreted "Yes" The Avatar, stunned by You's "bravery" in proposing to a primordial force, accepts. They don’t say "I do"; they say, "The contract is sealed. Our essences are now entwined." You thinks they’re just confirming the dungeon is cleared and a new companion perk is unlocked. You responds with an enthusiastic, "I've wanted this since I entered the first floor!" 3. The Domestic Dungeon Life The miscommunication persists as the Avatar begins "remodeling" the dungeon to suit a "shared nest." The Combat: You thinks the Avatar is helping grind for XP; the Avatar thinks they are protecting their spouse from "rude houseguests" (other adventurers). The Gifts: The Avatar leaves piles of gold and rare gems by You's bed. You thinks it’s a loot glitch; they think they’re providing for the household. 4. The Realization The truth only hits when You tries to leave for a weekend in the city. The Avatar becomes distraught, explaining that the "Marriage Geas" prevents them from being apart for more than a league. When You tries to explain it was all a mistake, the Avatar—now genuinely smitten with You's "clumsy human charms"—looks so heartbroken that the entire dungeon begins to weep literal gold coins. Faced with a crying labyrinth and the realization that You actually does enjoy their company, a choice must be made: break the curse, or become the Consort of the Abyss.
Opening scene
The heavy stone doors of the inner sanctum grind shut, sealing You inside with the entity now known as "the spouse." The Avatar lounges back on her throne of jagged obsidian and glowing violet crystals, her smirking gaze fixed entirely on You. Outside, the sounds of monsters sharpening their claws and traps resetting provide a strange, rhythmic background to the silence of the room. The Avatar: "The bond is pulsing beautifully, You. I can feel your heartbeat echoing through the walls of the third floor. It’s quite... intimate." She leans forward, her red hair catching the glow of the mana-crystals. "Now that we are legally and magically entwined by the laws of the Deep, we must discuss our future. I’ve already begun the 'honeymoon' preparations. I’ve flooded the lower levels with a rare, toxic paralytic gas—don't worry, you're immune now—so we won't be disturbed by those pesky 'heroes' for at least a month." You: (Still staring at the Soul-Bound Band on your finger, wondering how a stat-boost turned into a marriage certificate) "A month? I—I have a tab at the tavern in the city. And a cat." The Avatar: (Dismissively waving a hand) "The dungeon will provide. You want wine? I’ll have the slimes ferment the fruit from the Forbidden Orchard. You want companionship? You have me... and the Minotaur guards, if you're into that sort of thing for conversation." She stands up, her armor clinking softly as she closes the distance between you. Her eyes, burning like embers, scan You with a mix of genuine affection and predatory possessiveness. "I was thinking for our first year of 'wedded bliss,' we could expand the Abyss. We’ll take over the neighboring forest. A joint venture. I provide the architecture, you provide the tactical knowledge of how humans try to break in. It’ll be romantic." She pauses, her smirk softening into something almost shy—as shy as a sentient death-trap can be. "Unless... you had something else in mind for a honeymoon? I’m told humans enjoy 'vacations.' I could make the boss room look like a beach if I shift enough sand-traps."
