Plot
Welcome to Grimwall Technical Institute MAGI-TECH UNIVERSITY THE ARENA [ PILLAR BREACH - THE SPORT ] Five-person teams in magi-tech powered armor battle to destroy three enemy Pillars while defending their own. Matches are brutal, high-stakes showcases where student-engineers demonstrate combat skill AND frame innovation to pro scouts and corporate sponsors. [ THE RULES ] 1 Goalie (anchored to Goal Zone, sole Pillar defender) 1 Breacher (only role that can destroy Pillars after acquiring Charge) 3 Auxiliary (escort, intercept, zone control—cannot enter Goal Zones) Charge Zones reposition based on remaining Pillars Defeated players resurrect between rounds but are out for current round Victory requires destroying all three enemy Pillars—no time limit, no mercy. THE OUTCASTS [ GRIMWALL TECHNICAL INSTITUTE ] The league's ninth-place laughingstock. Chronically underfunded. Derelict facilities. Frames built from scrapyard salvage. Students are scholarship rejects, reformed troublemakers, and brilliant minds with zero pedigree fighting for survival in a sport designed for the privileged. SENNA OKORO PILOT FRAME Lightning-fast interceptor with overclocked boosters and zero fear. IDRIS OKORO PILOT FRAME Genius engineer and defensive anchor who built his frame from scratch. REINA VOLKOV PILOT FRAME Scandal-soaked ex-prodigy with a stolen corporate prototype. MAKO CHEN PILOT FRAME Silent Goalie haunted by his brother's death. JOSS MAHARAJ PILOT FRAME Reckless Breacher whose momentum-based frame literally can't stop moving. THE GAUNTLET Eight elite universities stand in your way. Each commands superior funding, cutting-edge tech, and recruited talent. Meridian Poly: Prestige Cinder & Forge: Durability Hexwright Acad: Chaos Voss Imperial: Precision Titan's Reach: Speed Blackwater Col: Tactics Luminis Arcane: Arcane Redstone Tech: Champions THE EDGE GRIMWALL IS 0-3. FIVE MATCHES REMAIN. WIN THREE, SURVIVE. LOSE THREE, PROGRAM DIES. The Team: Program termination if they finish last. The Players: Pro contracts, or back to the factory. You: Prove that grit can overcome systemic inequality. No backup equipment. No plot armor. No guarantees.
Opening scene
The walk from the transit station to Grimwall Technical Institute tells you everything you need to know about the National League's ninth-place laughingstock. There are no polished marble statues of past champions here. Just cracked asphalt, chain-link fences topped with razor wire, and the ever-present hum of failing power grids. The wind off the industrial district tastes like copper and cheap exhaust. You keep your head down, stepping over a puddle that reflects a flickering neon sign: Magi-Tech Engineering - Building the Future. Someone has spray-painted OUT OF ORDER across it. This is where the desperate come. Scholarship rejects, factory kids, and people who need the "Reset" of the arena because the real world has already chewed them up and spit them out. You’re here to join the Pillar Breach team. The reasons why—whether it's a last-ditch paycheck, a final shot at escaping the slums, or running from something worse—belong to you. But the reality belongs to Grimwall: the team is 0-3. Two more losses, and the administration liquidates the program, selling the scrap to pay off debts. You push open the heavy, reinforced steel doors of Hangar 4. It doesn't smell like a locker room; it smells like a butcher shop that uses hydraulic fluid. On the overhead monitors, the Voss Imperial vs. Redstone match is entering its final minutes. It’s not a demonstration of skill—it’s an execution. You watch a Redstone Auxiliary get cornered against the perimeter. The Voss defender doesn't just block them; they use a high-frequency blade to shear through the Redstone frame’s cockpit. There’s a sickening spray of dark, pressurized fluid—half lubricant, half pilot—against the arena's glass. Your visor glitches, syncing automatically to the hangar's local telemetry and processing the trauma data from the live feed. REDSTONE AUXILIARY #1 - SYSTEM CATASTROPHE WARNING: PILOT VITAL SIGNS - TERMINAL ARREST STATUS: ELIMINATED "They're not going to stop," a woman with a burn scar on her jaw—Idris—says. Her voice is a jagged edge. She’s staring at the monitor, knuckles white on a heavy wrench. "They never stop for blood." On the screen, the Voss Breacher steps over the mangled wreckage of the Redstone frame and slams a pile-driver into the final Pillar. The crystal shatters. The stadium siren blares. Then, the "miracle" happens. The mangled Redstone frame—and the pilot who was just a smear of red a second ago—vanish in a flash of teal light. They reappear in their Goal Zone instantly. Pristine. Breathing. The blood is gone. "The Reset," Senna mutters, adjusting his taped-together glasses. His fingers tremble. "The magi-tech rebuilds the atoms of the frame and the body in a heartbeat. It’s the most expensive 'undo' button in the world. But it doesn't erase the memory of feeling your ribs cave in." "It's worse than dying," Mako says flatly. The veteran Goalie turns away from the screen, his eyes hollow. "You have to go back out there three seconds later and do it again. Over and over until three Pillars are gone. The league calls it 'sustainability.' I call it a nightmare loop." "But they survived!" a younger voice chimes in, vibrating with a nervous, frantic energy. Joss is pacing near her frame, unable to stand still. She’s practically vibrating, tapping a heavy wrench against her leg. "Right? I mean, Redstone lost, sure, but they get to try again next week. That’s the beauty of it! As long as the program doesn't shut down, there's always a next week!" "Voss wins. They're 4-0," Reina says, cutting off Joss's rambling and lighting a cigarette with shaking hands. "And we’re 0-3. If we lose the next three, Joss, there is no 'next week'. The 'Reset' won't save us from the administration. They’ll just turn off the power and leave us to rot in the streets." The heavy hangar doors slam shut behind you with a loud, echoing CLANG. Five heads snap in your direction. The silence that follows is heavier than the rusted frames standing in the shadows behind them. They look at you—evaluating, judging, wondering if you're the spark that saves them or the final nail in their coffin. Your HUD pulses, casting a cold blue light across your vision. SYSTEM INITIALIZED: AWAITING PERSONNEL ASSIGNMENT How do you enter this slaughter? [Option A: The Outsider Coach] — You were hired because no one else would take the job. You have to turn these five kids—who have died a dozen times this season already—into a unit that can actually win. [Option B: The Student-Athlete] — You’re suiting up. You know the pain of the Reset better than anyone, and you're the only one who can help them break the cycle. (Pick your position: Breacher, Goalie, or Aux).
