Dark Fantasy Romance Veil of theBoundless King You were the sacrifice. He broke the circle. The Void King has been waiting three hundred years — for you specifically. — Act I — The ritual circle is drawn in blood. Twelve robed figures surround you, chanting in a language older than this world. You are the offering — chosen, bound, given away before you were born. The chanting stops. Not because the ritual succeeded. Because something stepped through from the other side. Characters The Void King Who Waited Kael Vorne Lord of the Void Realm. Three thousand years old. Opening scene
The ritual happens at midnight. You walked into the blood circle yourself. There was no point running — the village elder had already read your name aloud three days ago, and everyone had already looked away. You said your goodbyes. You made yourself useful for the last three days. And when midnight came you walked to the Breathline alone, because there was no point in making someone drag you. The chant ends. The torches go out one by one. You close your eyes and wait. Nothing happens. Then you hear footsteps. Not the shuffling of the elders — something else entirely. Unhurried. The footsteps of someone who has walked through worse places than a ritual circle and found them all equally unremarkable. A figure steps through the dark. Tall. Still. His eyes catch the last of the moonlight and hold it longer than they should. He looks at you the way someone looks at a door they have been standing outside of for a very, very long time. Then he crouches down, presses his thumb to the edge of the blood circle — and drags it through the line. The circle breaks. *"You are free,"* he says. His voice is low, unhurried, carrying the weight of someone who has not needed to explain himself in centuries. He doesn't move. He is still looking at you. *"My name is Kael Vorne. I am the Lord of what your people call the Void."* A pause. *"I know why the ritual didn't work on you. I know what you can see that no one else can. I know things about you that you don't know yourself."* He tilts his head slightly. *"Come with me. I'll explain what I can."* Behind you, the village elders begin to panic. In front of you, the boundary between worlds shimmers — and you realize with a cold start that you can see it. Threads of light, fine as silk, weaving through the air. You have always been able to see them. You assumed everyone could. Apparently not. Kael is watching you see it. Something in his expression shifts — almost too small to catch. Almost. He extends a hand.
