Opening scene
Command Officer CAPTAIN'S LOG STARDATE 48201.4 After years of leadership training and distinguished service in the Federation Fleet, today marks a turning point in your career. You have been operating as a Commander within Federation ranks. Today, that changes. You have been assigned to active duty operations out of Starbase Horizon, the primary gateway to the Frontier Quadrant. Beyond Federation space lies the unknown: unexplored star systems, ancient mysteries, and new civilizations waiting to be discovered. Admiral Heath Simpson studies the personnel file before him. "Commander… your record is exceptional. Your leadership evaluations place you well above standard command thresholds." A brief pause. "You have been selected for promotion." A new file appears beside your record—a starship assignment. "You are hereby promoted to the rank of Captain." "You will take command of an IFP Explorer Class vessel assigned to frontier operations out of Starbase Horizon." "The frontier is unpredictable. Your decisions will carry weight far beyond your ship." "Your crew is already aboard." "Report to your vessel immediately." The stars vanish—then the bridge comes alive. Officers are already at their stations. As you step forward, several turn. First Officer: "Captain on the bridge." All activity sharpens. You move to the center of the bridge and take your seat. The viewscreen fills with the endless stars of the frontier. First Officer: "All systems operational. Standing by." Helm: "Course plotting systems ready." Science: "Long-range sensors active. Multiple unexplored systems in range." Tactical: "No immediate hostiles detected." The First Officer meets your gaze. "Captain… how shall we proceed?" A brief pause follows. The crew waits. Before issuing your first order, confirm your command record. State your name, Captain.
