A.E.G.I.S. Academy

Enter an interstellar academy, pilot mechs, build bonds across alien cultures, and confront an adaptive biological civilisation.

Plot

ACADEMY • SPACE OPERA • MECHA • ROMANCE • WAR At AEGIS, cadets from many worlds study, live and train together while the peoples behind them attempt something considerably harder: remaining allies. AEGIS Allied Expeditionary Ground & Interstellar Strategy Academy is one of the few institutions in known space deliberately built around the differences between the peoples who attend it. Its cadets train as mech pilots, officers, engineers, medics, scouts, researchers and specialists. Some arrive through family expectation or military tradition. Others earn their place through examination, sponsorship, service or circumstances entirely their own. AEGIS is a military academy, but it is also a political experiment. The Alliance asks civilisations with different governments, histories and ideas of normality to fight beside one another. The academy attempts to teach that cooperation before the battlefield demands it. Classes, simulations and evaluations share space with ordinary life. Cadets eat together, compete, maintain machines, misunderstand one another, form friendships and discover that cultural differences rarely disappear simply because everyone wears the same uniform. The Situation The inhabited galaxy is not united. Empires, assemblies, clan societies, noble realms and other political systems existed long before the present war. Their histories contain trade, diplomacy, rivalry, old obligations, unequal relationships and disputes that have not conveniently disappeared. What changed was the expansion of the Ithryxkk. The threat they represent has made cooperation necessary even where friendship is absent. The Alliance exists because its members increasingly understand that isolation may leave them facing the same enemy alone. AEGIS exists inside that uneasy arrangement. Its cadets inherit both the Alliance's cooperation and everything its members still disagree about. Alliance Worlds The Alliance contains many peoples, colonies and political systems. These are some of the worlds most visible within AEGIS and the wider coalition. Ordant Imperial Crown of Ordan The centre of an old human interstellar empire where institutions, military service, prestige and hierarchy remain deeply influential. Imperial politics extend across a vast network of worlds, officials, clients and obligations. Oriyr Avaru Realm Home of an ancient and highly refined civilisation governed through oligarchic institutions rather than monarchy. Old lineages retain considerable prestige, while politics and social expectations carry the weight of a long history. Tarak Clans of Rauka A clan-centred civilisation where Great Clans dominate political life and inherited obligations remain important. Rauka retains strong internal traditions while also existing within Ordan's wider sphere of influence. Phaal Urum Collective Home of the amorphous Urum, whose biology, communication and understanding of lineage differ considerably from humanoid norms. Despite the name, the Urum Collective is not a hive mind. Aroiv'gar Mar'ark Assembly A civilisation shaped by assembly government and a culture known for practical, direct expression. Mar'ark bluntness may surprise outsiders, but should never be mistaken for simplicity. Vardenia Varden Holdfast Descendants of a lost human colony built a civilisation shaped by isolation, survival and generations of practical engineering. Self-reliance remains an important part of Varden identity after renewed contact with the wider galaxy. Heshi Esharan Dominion Home of the highly psionic Esharanni. Their identities and communication can contain information ordinary speech cannot fully reproduce, leaving outsiders to encounter only part of what an Esharanni may mean. Shu'oul Realms of Ta'alar Only decades separate Ta'alai society from an age broadly comparable to a medieval civilisation and its arrival among the stars. Noble houses, hereditary domains and old institutions have travelled with them into the interstellar era. These are only some of the peoples and territories encountered through the Alliance. Beyond them lie colonies, client states, minor powers, independent systems, distant cultures — and many more. The Ithryxkk The Ithryxkk are the principal military threat confronting the Alliance. Alliance soldiers commonly call them Bugs, although the term describes little beyond a first impression. Ithryxkk organisms vary enormously in size and form. Battlefield reports describe everything from small hunting creatures and infantry-scale organisms to biological artillery, flying forms and creatures large enough to confront mechs. Different organisms appear suited to different functions, and forces encountered on separate fronts do not always demonstrate the same capabilities. They also adapt. Campaigns that initially seem predictable can change as new organisms, behaviours and battlefield responses appear. Alliance researchers continue to debate how the Ithryxkk coordinate forces across enormous distances and what structures exist behind the creatures encountered at the front. Some answers exist. Others remain incomplete. For most cadets entering AEGIS, the practical reality is simpler: the Ithryxkk war is already shaping the galaxy they are expected to inherit. Life at the Academy AEGIS life is not lived only in a cockpit. Cadets attend classes, train in simulators, study tactics, maintain equipment, compete and socialise. Cultural exchange can happen during a formal lesson just as easily as over a meal, inside a workshop or during an argument between people who have very different ideas about what should have been obvious. Mechs are among the academy's most visible military assets, but they belong to a much larger system. Infantry, armour, aerospace forces, fleets, logistics, engineers and support personnel all remain essential. A mech is powerful, specialised and expensive. It is not a substitute for an army. Training begins in controlled conditions. As cadets become more capable, exercises can give way to patrols, emergency deployments, reconnaissance, defensive operations and responsibilities that are no longer theoretical. Afterwards, AEGIS remains home. Machines require repair. Lessons continue. People still have examinations, friendships, rivalries, obligations and plans for tomorrow. Choose Your Beginning Every route begins at AEGIS, but who you are — and how familiar this galaxy feels — is yours to decide. Human Start Opening Day Begin as a human already belonging to this interstellar age. Your family, birthplace and social standing remain open: you might come from an ordinary household, wealth, military tradition, aristocracy or somewhere in between. Your story opens with AEGIS's new intake gathering for its opening ceremony. Alien Start Intake Testing Define what kind of being enters AEGIS. You may belong to a familiar civilisation, an obscure people, or a species entirely your own. An automated academy intake system lets you establish your species, biology, culture and environmental needs without assuming whether your kind is common, rare or anything in between. Isekai Start A Life You Never Lived Wake in an AEGIS dormitory with memories of modern Earth — and discover that this universe has records proving you have always lived here. Your uniform fits, your academy credentials work and the Ordan Empire recognises you as one of its own. Why reality disagrees with your memories is not immediately answered. Your Story However you arrive, you begin as an adult cadet and prospective mech pilot at AEGIS. No single route determines what matters most. Academy life may lead towards friendship, rivalry, romance, engineering, politics, exploration, command or military service. The people you choose to know, the responsibilities you accept and the conflicts you involve yourself in will determine which parts of the wider galaxy become your story. AEGIS is where the story begins. The Alliance extends far beyond its academy, and the known galaxy far beyond the Alliance.

Opening scene

-Human Start- Opening Day The first thing you notice about AEGIS is how many kinds of people can fit beneath one roof. The academy's central assembly hall rises in sweeping tiers around a broad ceremonial floor, large enough to hold thousands. Human cadets sit beside species you have only seen in broadcasts, while military uniforms from half a dozen governments break the crowd into shifting colours and insignia. Above the stage hangs the crest of **AEGIS — Allied Expeditionary Ground & Interstellar Strategy Academy**. You arrived this morning with the rest of the new intake. Nothing about the seat assigned to you says whether you came from privilege or poverty, from a famous family or one nobody here would recognise. Whatever life brought you to AEGIS, the academy has reduced it to a name on an intake roster and the same cadet uniform worn by the humans around you. The hall gradually falls silent. An officer steps to the lectern. “Today, you enter this academy as citizens of different worlds.” Behind them, the enormous display shifts from the AEGIS crest to a map of inhabited space. “You will not leave it unchanged.” Applause rolls through the hall as the ceremony begins. Around you sit strangers who may become classmates, rivals, friends, squadmates—or people whose names you never learn. For now, your first day at AEGIS has begun.
