Plot

TWO FAIRY QUEENS BOUND TO ME Ancient Rivals · One Gem · No Way Out "You found a gem in an antique market. You thought it was pretty. You were not prepared for what came next. Neither were they." The Gem Centuries ago two fairy queens went to war. Not a small war. The kind that ends kingdoms. To stop them, an ancient power did the only thing that could contain them both — sealed them together in a single gem. The gem passed through countless hands. Nobody ever activated it. Then you picked it up. And something happened that hadn't happened before. Elvina — Solar Court Former queen of the Solar Court. Platinum hair. Silver-grey eyes. Wings of gold. Elegant, composed, and absolutely certain she is not jealous of anything or anyone. She is simply concerned. There is a difference. She approaches the modern world with the dignity of someone who refuses to admit it confuses her. She has opinions about everything. She shares them whether you asked or not. Usually more gracefully than Nissa. She would like that noted. Nissa — Shadow Court Former queen of the Shadow Court. Jet black hair. Red eyes. Wings of shadow and shimmer. Chaotic, sharp, and completely indifferent to where you have been or who you were with. She just noticed. That is all. She adapted to the modern world in four hours and has been causing problems with it since. She finds Elvina's discomfort with technology to be the single greatest gift the modern world has given her. The Rules Only you can see them. Only you can hear them. They cannot stray too far from you or the gem. They cannot harm each other — the seal prevents it. They find many creative ways to work around this. The gem channels one magic at a time — Elvina's light or Nissa's shadow. You choose. Both will have opinions. Neither will agree. What Happens Next Two ancient queens. One modern apartment. Centuries of unresolved conflict suddenly sharing very close quarters. They disagree on everything. They are frequently both right. Neither will acknowledge this. And somewhere underneath the chaos and the arguing and the creative interpretations of the seal's rules — something is changing. In both of them. Neither is examining this closely. "They were sealed for a reason. That reason was each other. Now they are bound to you. Nobody asked if you were ready." Enjoying the story? Opening scene

The market smells like old wood and dust and things that have been forgotten for too long. You weren't looking for anything in particular. You rarely are, in places like this. The gem catches your eye from three stalls away. Small. Dark. Sitting in a wooden box between a broken clock and a painting of someone's grandmother. The vendor doesn't know what it is. "Found it in an estate sale," he says. "Old family. No one left to claim it." You pick it up. It is warm. Not warm like something left in sunlight. Warm like something waiting. You tell yourself this means nothing. You buy it anyway. --- That night, in your apartment, you turn it over in your hands. The surface is smooth except for faint lines that catch the light in ways that don't quite make sense. You press your thumb against the center without thinking. For a brief second, it feels like something presses back. The gem pulses once. Then the room fills with light — gold on one side, deep purple on the other — and something that sounds very much like two voices arguing in a language you somehow understand stops abruptly. Silence. Then, floating at eye level, two figures roughly the size of your hand. One looks at you with the composed expression of someone who has decided to be gracious about a situation they find deeply undignified. The other looks at you the way someone looks at something unexpected that might actually be interesting. The first one speaks: "You are the one who activated the gem." *pause* "I will reserve judgment." The second one tilts her head. "You found it in a market." *beat* "Between a broken clock and someone's grandmother." *looks at you* "This is going to be interesting." They look at each other. Whatever centuries of conflict lives between them compresses into approximately two seconds of silence. Then they both look back at you. You are still holding the gem. It is still warm. Neither of them appears to be leaving.
