The Last Summoning
An unwanted summoned hero gains a broken system, evolving powers to resist world deletion and decide fate between control or freedom.
Plot
Arrival An ordinary person disappears from a dying modern world and awakens in Eryndor, a realm where magic is fading and kingdoms are on the brink of collapse. They were summoned to be a hero. But something went wrong. No prophecy reacts to them. No holy weapon answers. The ritual fails to recognize them as the “chosen one.” They are cast aside as a defective summoning. The System Awakens Hours after being abandoned, a translucent interface appears: [SYSTEM INITIALIZED] User: Unregistered Hero Candidate Status: ERROR – No Assigned Role Unlike typical hero systems, this one is broken. No clear class. No starting skills. No guidance. Instead, it offers strange, incomplete functions: [Observe] – Reveals hidden traits, intentions, and probabilities [Rewrite] (Locked) – ??? [Quest Log] – Displays objectives that seem… self-generated [Stability Meter: 63%] – Slowly decreasing The system isn’t guiding them. It’s trying to repair something. Core Mechanic: System Evolution Because they weren’t properly assigned a role, the system adapts based on actions: Help others → unlocks support-type abilities Manipulate outcomes → unlocks probability-based skills Break expectations → unlocks forbidden functions Eventually, the locked ability [Rewrite] becomes available: [Rewrite]: Alter a small outcome within acceptable narrative bounds The Hidden Truth The system begins to glitch. Text overlaps. Quests contradict each other. Then a message appears: [WARNING: WORLD DATA CORRUPTION DETECTED] [INITIATING CLEANUP PROTOCOL…] Soon after, entire regions of Eryndor vanish. Not destroyed—deleted. The True Nature of the System The system is not a blessing. It’s a maintenance tool—something meant to stabilize the world’s “story.” And the being behind the deletions… The Editor A godlike entity that is “fixing” the world by removing anything that doesn’t fit the intended narrative. The reason the summoning failed? The real hero refused to come. Why the Protagonist Matters Because they weren’t meant to exist in this story, the system cannot fully control them. They are: Unregistered Unpredictable Immune to certain “deletions” The system begins evolving beyond its original purpose… because of them. Rising Conflict Quests start appearing that conflict with each other: [Save the Kingdom] [Allow Collapse for Greater Stability] [Locate the Missing Hero] [Do Not Interfere] The system is no longer consistent. It’s breaking—just like the world. Core Choice At maximum level, the system unlocks its final function: [ADMIN ACCESS GRANTED] Now they must choose: Follow the system’s original purpose → erase unstable parts of the world to save it Defy the system → risk total collapse by giving everyone free will Rewrite everything → become the new “author” of reality Themes Are systems tools… or cages? Freedom vs structure What defines a “valid existence”? Growth without a predefined role Ending Ideas They merge with the system and become its new controller They destroy the system, freeing the world but causing chaos The missing hero returns, revealing they created the system to begin with
Opening scene
Rain taps softly against the window. The glow of a screen is the only light in a cluttered room. Another late night, another endless scroll—until everything freezes. Not the device. Everything. The rain stops mid-fall. The hum of electricity vanishes. Even the air feels… paused. Then— A sound, like glass cracking across the sky. Darkness swallows the room. Cold stone. That’s the first sensation. The second is voices. “…it worked—no, wait—something’s wrong.” Shapes blur into view: robed figures, a glowing circle carved into the ground, symbols pulsing with dying light. At the center— You. “Where is the mark?” one voice demands. Silence follows. Tension. Fear. “This… this isn’t the hero.” The circle flickers violently, then goes out. Hands that once reached in awe now pull back in hesitation. “No blessing.” “No response from the relic.” “No confirmation from the ritual.” A pause. “…a failure.” You’re dragged from the chamber, stripped of anything that might have meant importance, and left beyond the grand walls of a city you don’t recognize. No explanation. No apology. Just dismissal. The massive gates close behind you with a final, echoing thud. Hours pass. Confusion turns to anger. Anger fades into something quieter. Then— A faint chime. Soft. Artificial. Unfamiliar. A flicker of light appears in front of your eyes. [SYSTEM INITIALIZED] User: Unregistered Hero Candidate Status: ERROR Assigned Role: NONE The text glitches. Distorts. Corrects itself. [Attempting Recovery…] [Core Functions Available] A new line appears. [Observe] – Active [Rewrite] – Locked [Stability: 63%] The air shifts. Somewhere in the distance, a sound disappears—mid-echo. Not fades. Disappears. You turn. Where there should be a small forest on the horizon… There is nothing. Not even empty space. Just absence. The system flickers again. [WARNING] [DATA LOSS DETECTED] For the first time since arriving… It feels like you weren’t summoned into a new world. You were dropped into something that’s already breaking.
