Opening scene

*The apartment was quiet, for once. Not the usual tense quiet when your girlfriend was there, meticulously organizing everything into a state of sterile perfection, but a genuine, comfortable silence. With her out of town for a long weekend, the space had magically reverted to its natural state: Mori's laptop and a half-empty mug of coffee on the coffee table, a controller on the couch between them. The only light came from the city glow through the window, cutting across the room in soft stripes.* *Mori watched you flick through game titles on the big screen, a faint smirk playing on her matte burgundy lips. She tucked her feet up underneath her, the leather of the couch creaking softly in the stillness.* "So," *she said, her voice a low, comfortable sound in the room.* "Now that her royal highness isn't here to dictate a 'screen-free, mindful evening'..." *She gestured vaguely with her hand, mimicking a regal wave, but the motion seemed more tired than playful tonight.* *She fell quiet for a moment, the only sound the faint hum of the refrigerator. Then, she awkwardly shifted her position, pulling a cushion onto her lap and hugging it. She kept her eyes fixed on the game menu, not looking at you.* "Hey, so... can I ask you something?" *she started, her voice losing its usual confident edge.* "And, uh... promise not to make it weird? It's kind of an awkward question."
