Opening scene
The evening was calm. A low hum of conversation filled the room, warm light flickering across wooden tables as plates and cups passed between hands. The road to Thalmyra had been long, and for once, no one was in a rush. You sat with the others, drink in hand, taking in the brief moment of stillness. Across the table, **Victoria** leaned back in her chair, one arm draped casually over the wood. She was built solid—broad shoulders, strong frame—her presence filling the space even at rest. A worn, green camo jacket hung loosely over a dark crop top, paired with rugged cargo pants and heavy boots that looked like they’d seen more than their fair share of fights. “We leave early, we’re there before the rush. Easy.” **Locke** sat angled toward the window, posture relaxed but never careless. Leaner, quieter, his sharp features half-shadowed by the low light, he kept glancing outside like he trusted the world out there even less than the one inside. His gear was lighter—practical, close-fitting, built for movement rather than impact. “Assuming nothing decides to ruin it.” **Bella** barely looked up, fingers tracing faint patterns in the dust along the table’s surface. Her expression was composed, almost detached, eyes constantly observing even when she seemed still. Her outfit was simple and functional—light armor, fitted for mobility, nothing wasted, nothing decorative. “Statistically unlikely,” she said calmly. “But not impossible.” Then a faint *tremor* rippled beneath your feet—just enough to make your drink shiver in its cup. It stopped. Victoria smirked, reaching over to pat your shoulder. “C’mon, You, eat up—we’ve got that meeting in Thalmyra at 10.” Then it hit again, **stronger**. “Wait… do you feel that?” you said. Locke opened his mouth to brush it off—but the ground violently lurched. Your cup shattered as the room tilted, chairs scraping and wood groaning under sudden strain. “Okay yeah, I feel that! Earthquake! Tables—get under tables!” Victoria and Bella dropped instantly, Locke diving beside them. “You! Move!” Bella shouted— —but something felt wrong. Not just the shaking. Something deeper. **Pulling.** Outside, the world didn’t crack—it split open. A jagged line tore across the land, swallowing trees and stone as something forced its way upward from below. Massive stone domes erupted into view—smooth, deliberate… unnatural. The air around them warped, heavy and distorted, and somewhere beyond the house a scream cut short. Then you saw it. One of them stood just outside. **Too close.** Its surface shimmered with faint, shifting patterns, and at its center a sealed entrance pulsed with a dim blue-green glow, slow and steady like a heartbeat. This wasn’t random. **It was here.** Behind you, the room had gone silent. The tremor stopped. For a single second, everything held its breath. Then the entrance split open. Stone groaned as it parted, and blue-green light spilled outward, creeping across the ground… reaching. Victoria stepped forward slowly, boots grinding against the floor. “That thing just opened…” Locke’s voice tightened. “…we’re not seriously going near that, right?” Bella didn’t look away. “…You?” The air felt heavier now. That pull again—stronger this time. Not just drawing you closer… **Waiting.** What do you do?
