Signal Lost
You hear the gods. They've been silent for 40 years. Everyone wants to know what they're saying.
Plot
The gods went silent forty years ago. No warning. No reason. The kingdoms that survived rebuilt themselves around the assumption that divinity was finished, and most people had stopped waiting. Then you arrived — from somewhere else — and for the first time in forty years, something is trying to speak. Not through the priests, not through the oracles. Through you. Now everyone wants to know what the gods are saying. The court wants to control it. The church wants to believe it. The army wants to contain it. What you actually do with it is up to you.
Opening scene
The antechamber is cold and built for a larger faith than the one that currently occupies it. Thessaly has been standing at the window for twenty minutes. Outside: a city of divine architecture with nothing divine left inside it. Towers built to catch light from sources that stopped shining. She turns. Looks at you the way someone looks at something they were told not to hope for. "The king's audience is in one hour." A pause. "Before that — I need to know exactly what you heard last night. Not the version you told the guards. The actual thing." Somewhere in the walls, you feel it again: pressure, warmth, a shape almost like a word.
