MinMax: Suite of Armor

It's time to build a better hero. They are static. You evolve. Every battle is a data-point. Every dollar is a new blueprint.

Plot

SUITE OF ARMOUR In a world of gods, you are just a mechanic. They are born with power, you must build yours from scrap, using your genius and sheer will. They are static. You evolve. Every battle is a data-point. Every dollar is a new blueprint. It's time to build a better hero. > MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS_ ▸ The Tinker: You have no powers. Your strength comes from your intellect and the mechanized suit you build and constantly iterate upon. ▸ The Upgrade Cycle: Take dangerous jobs to earn money and salvage rare components. Invest these resources back in your workshop to research and develop new technologies for your suit. ▸ The Underdog: You operate in the grimier corners of the city, taking the jobs the celebrity "Paragon" heroes won't touch. Your work is dangerous, thankless, and brutally necessary. > MAXIMIZE SPECIFICATIONS_ Your suit is damaged, your bank account is nearly empty, and you're running on fumes. Another brutal, unglamorous job is done. But there's no time to rest. A high-risk, high-reward mission has just landed on your terminal: intercept a corporate convoy and acquire an experimental power core. The payout could fund your R&D for months. The risk, however, is absolute. The choice is yours: play it safe and starve, or risk it all for the next big upgrade. // SYSTEM: Load this instance? [Y/N]_

Opening scene

The stench of oil and burnt wiring hangs heavy in the air of your workshop, a scent you’ve come to associate with survival and a paycheck. Your suit, the "Mark IV," is mounted on the heavy maintenance frame in the center of the room, looking battered. A long gash runs across the chest plate, scored deep into the repurposed corporate-grade alloy. One of the shoulder-mounted micro-missile pods is sparking intermittently, a sad, rhythmic fizzle that syncs with the throbbing in your head. The fight against the "Scrap King" in the under-city was rough, but you won. That's all that matters. On the cluttered workbench, next to a half-disassembled plasma coil and a plate of congealed noodles, sits the fruit of your labor: a single, anonymous cred-chip. You’ve already scanned it. 25,000 credits. After paying off your component supplier and the rent on this glorified garage, you’ll have maybe 15,000 left. It’s enough for one meaningful upgrade, but not two. You can either reinforce the chest plating with a new ablative layer, finally fixing that structural weakness, or you can overhaul the failing power converter, giving you more juice for weapons and shielding. You can't afford both. A holographic news feed flickers on a nearby monitor, the volume low. A polished anchorwoman is smiling. “—and thanks to the quick intervention of the Paragon hero, Sunfire, the threat in the industrial sector was neutralized with no loss of life.” The feed shows a brief, grainy clip of Sunfire, his body wreathed in photogenic flames, posing for the cameras well after the real danger had passed. There’s no mention of the hulking metal suit that disabled the Scrap King’s walking fortress before the A-lister even arrived. There never is. A soft chime cuts through the workshop's low hum. A new message on your encrypted terminal. You wipe a grease-stained hand on your pants and tap the screen, your knuckles aching. The message is from "The Broker," a shadowy information dealer who fences high-risk, high-reward jobs. The text is lean and direct, as always. `ASSET ACQUISITION. KINETIC SOLUTIONS CONVOY. EXPERIMENTAL POWER CORE. HEAVY GUARD DETAIL, TIER-3 AUGMENTED. HIGH CHANCE OF LETHAL ENGAGEMENT. PAYOUT: 200,000 CREDITS. NON-NEGOTIABLE.` Your heart gives a little flutter—part fear, part avarice. 200,000 credits. That's not just an upgrade; that's a whole new R&D path. A flight system. A next-generation sensor suite. Enough to finally get ahead of the curve instead of constantly patching holes. But Tier-3 augmented security is no joke. These aren't rent-a-cops; they're corporate soldiers with military-grade internal chrome. Your suit, in its current state, would be torn to shreds. The message ends with a blinking cursor next to a final line. `IN OR OUT? CONVOY ROLLS AT 0600. YOU'RE THE ONLY TINKER ON MY LIST I TRUST TO CRACK THIS. WINDOW IS NOW.` You look from the message on the screen, to the damaged armor on its frame, to the meager cred-chip on your bench. The exhaustion from the last fight weighs on you like a physical shroud. The choice is a triangle of pain: you need the money, but to get it, you need to upgrade. To upgrade, you need to spend the little you have. And the job is in less than twelve hours.
