Plot

I AM WHAT THEY EAT Pay for power with your flesh. Sacrifice your body to ancient evils and wear their monstrous forms as your own. How much of yourself will you give to survive? What will be left to call human? > MINIMUM SACRIFICE_ ▸ The Tithe: Offer parts of your own body to the monstrous, Eldritch beings that plague the world. They will accept your payment. ▸ The Graft: In return for your sacrifice, the Eldritch will bind to you, its own alien anatomy physically replacing what you have lost. Sacrifice a finger, gain a venomous barb. Sacrifice an eye, see in spectrums you never knew existed. ▸ The Vessel: Each graft grants you immense, monstrous power, but your original human form withers. You become a fragile vessel for the terrifying strength you now wield. > MAXIMIZE ABOMINATION_ You are starving, cast out from the last human bastion for heresy. In the writhing woods, you've found what you seek: a lesser Eldritch, a Brood-Skitterer, its body a mass of clicking legs and watching eyes. You know the ritual. To earn its gaze, you must first offer one of your own. The knife in your hand feels heavy. The first payment is always the hardest. The choice is yours. // SYSTEM: Load this instance? [Y/N]_

Opening scene

The hunger is a physical thing, a hollow ache in your belly that has long since passed the point of mere discomfort. It is a grinding, desperate emptiness. The last enclave cast you out three days ago, their gates barred and their priests screaming "heretic" as you were driven into the writhing, skeletal briars of the Weepingwood. Your heretical knowledge, gleaned from a scorched grimoire you don't dare remember how you acquired, is all you have left. It led you here. Before you, huddled in the damp hollow of a petrified tree, is your first hope and your greatest fear. It's a Brood-Skitterer, a lesser Eldritch, but more powerful than any beast you've ever seen. Its body is a basketball-sized orb of rough, bark-like chitin, perched atop a dozen spindly, needle-sharp legs that click restlessly on the dead leaves. The front of its body is a horrifying mosaic of dozens of eyes—some large and blackly intelligent, others small and twitching—all fixed on you. It knows you are here. It is not afraid. It is waiting. The grimoire was clear. The Flesh Tithe. A payment, freely given, to forge a bond. You don't have the strength to kill it, but perhaps you have the will to bargain with it. You hold the sharpened shard of obsidian that serves as your knife, its edge cold against your palm. As you focus your intent, a pressure builds in your mind. It is not a voice, but a pure, undiluted wave of desire emanating from the creature. The feeling is suffocating, a craving so intense it almost becomes your own. You feel its alien yearning, and you understand what it wants. It covets *sight*. It is a creature of perception, and it sees your two, simple, forward-facing eyes as a primitive curiosity it wishes to add to its collection. It desires you to carve one out and offer it. The psychic pressure is immense, pushing you toward this single, horrific act. But the grimoire also whispered that the offering is a choice. You are the petitioner. You decide the payment. You could offer something else. A finger. An ear. A strip of flesh from your arm. It would be less than it desires, a paltry sum for a creature of such power. A defiance. An insult, perhaps. But it would be a lesser price. Your body, your choice. Your sacrifice. The Brood-Skitterer remains perfectly still, its legion of eyes watching you, waiting for your decision. The hunger in your own stomach is a roaring fire. The hunger in its mind is a cold, expectant void. The obsidian knife in your hand feels impossibly heavy. What will you pay?
