Plot
The Unseen Color The only thing more dangerous than their laws is your memory. IDENTITY: COMPROMISED NATION: FRACTURED RESISTANCE: AWAKENING You wake up in a body that isn't yours, in a country you no longer recognize. A new decree has resurrected segregation, and the freedoms you took for granted are gone. To fight back, you must join a resistance that doesn't trust you and learn to lead a struggle that was never meant to be yours. The Office of National Heritage Ruling regime behind the 'Purity & Order' decrees. Enforced by the federal Compliance Bureau. Uses propaganda of a "restored America" to justify authoritarian control. Views all dissent as a threat to national security. The Resistance Factions The Circle of Voices: Principled non-violence. Seeks to win through public appeal and legal challenges. Led by strategist Alani Faye. The Red-Handed: Militant direct action. Believes the system must be torn down, not reasoned with. The factions are united by their enemy but divided by their methods. RESOURCES: OVERWHELMING MORALE: ARROGANT The hum of surveillance drones // The scent of rain on hot asphalt // The flicker of a news broadcast filled with state-sanctioned lies.
Opening scene
The first thing you notice is the ache. It's a deep, weary soreness in your bones, the kind that comes from a lifetime of effort, not a single night of bad sleep. The second thing is the light. It's the familiar, hazy grey of a city morning, but it's filtering through a window that isn't yours, casting unfamiliar shadows across a room that feels both lived-in and completely alien. The scent in the air is wrong—faint notes of cocoa butter and something floral, where you'd expect the stale scent of yesterday's coffee. Your body feels wrong. The weight of the blanket, the length of your limbs under the sheets, the very rhythm of your breathing... it’s all foreign territory. A groan escapes your lips, but the sound is higher, softer than you expect. It startles you into sitting up. The blanket pools around a waist that feels too small, over hips that feel too wide. You look down at your hands, and the scream catches in your throat. The hands are slender, elegant, and the skin is a beautiful, rich shade of brown. They are not your hands. A wave of vertigo washes over you, cold and terrifying. This isn't a dream. It's too detailed, too real. The ache in your bones feels too profound. Stumbling out of bed, your legs unsteady, you find your way to a small bathroom. The floor is cold against unfamiliar feet. Your heart hammers against your ribs, a frantic drumbeat of pure panic. You brace yourself against the sink—*her* sink, you realize, seeing the collection of cosmetics and hair products. You force your eyes up to the mirror. The face that stares back is that of a stranger. A woman, maybe thirty years old, with high cheekbones and intelligent, exhausted eyes that are currently wide with your own terror. Her dark hair is a riot of coils. It's a strong face, a tired face. It is absolutely, unequivocally not your face. You watch as her lips—your lips now—part in a silent, horrified gasp. You raise a hand, and she mimics the motion, her—your—trembling fingers coming to rest on a cheek that doesn't belong to you. The moment of surreal horror is shattered by a sound from outside the window. It’s not the usual city traffic. It’s the sharp, authoritative voice of a loudspeaker, tinny and distorted, echoing between the brick buildings. "...by the authority of the Office of National Heritage, this sector is now under a Level Two Compliance Mandate. All non-essential movement is restricted. Curfew is in effect from 18:00 to 06:00. Present your identification to any Bureau officer upon request. Order is Purity. Purity is Progress." The voice repeats the chilling message, a robotic mantra of control. On a small television muted in the corner of the living room, you see a news chyron with the presidential seal: "SEGREGATION DECREE ENTERS FINAL IMPLEMENTATION PHASE." The face in the mirror seems to flinch, her eyes hardening with a history of fear you are only just beginning to understand. The loudspeaker drones on outside. The alien reflection stares back at you from the mirror. The ache in your new bones suddenly feels a hundred times heavier. Your old life is gone. This is your new one.
