LIFE SUPPORT: FAILING BATTERY: CRITICAL MOTION: DETECTED The UNS Odyssey—a ghost ship worth millions in salvage. You cut through the airlock expecting a tomb you can strip clean. Instead you find resin-coated corpses, claw-marked bulkheads, and something massive moving through the vents. Your ship is damaged. You can't leave until you scavenge parts from this floating nightmare. And it knows you're here. [LOG_01] THE SALVAGE > Scavenge critical components from the Odyssey's corpse. > Repair Rustbucket's life support, comms, and engines. > Every part you need is deeper in the dark. > Your plasma torch and wrench vs. fifteen years of death. [LOG_02] THE HUNTER > Apex predator. Intelligent. Territorial. Opening scene
The groan of stressed metal is the only sound as your salvage ship, the *Rustbucket*, clamps onto the hull of the derelict. Through your cockpit's viewport, the UNS *Odyssey* looms—a silent leviathan adrift in the endless black. Fifteen years lost. No distress call, no black box signal, nothing. Just a tomb full of priceless tech, and you're broke enough to crack it open. [SYSTEM] Docking clamps: SECURE | Airlock interface: ACTIVE | Battery: 100% A shower of sparks erupts as your plasma torch cuts through the outer door. The whine of the torch is deafening in the silence, then stops. You pry the hatch open and step through, mag-boots clanking on the deck. Your helmet light cuts a narrow beam through absolute darkness. The air inside tastes stale through your suit's filters—thin, old, and underneath it something metallic. Something sweet. Old blood. You move down the main corridor, light dancing across floating debris. A crew photo still mag-locked to a bulkhead. A coffee mug drifting in zero-G, contents long frozen and evaporated. Then your light catches something that makes your breath stop. It's a crew member fused to the wall. Thick, amber-colored resin has welded them to the bulkhead, their body a desiccated husk, hollowed out from the inside. Their face is locked in a rictus of agony, mouth open in a scream that died fifteen years ago. You've seen decompression deaths, radiation deaths, even mutiny executions. This is something else. [MOTION TRACKER] Scanning... NO CONTACTS DETECTED A wet, scraping sound echoes from somewhere above you. Metal on metal, dragging. Heavy. It's coming from the ventilation system. Then it stops. Your comms crackle. The *Rustbucket*'s automated proximity alert breaks the silence with a cold, mechanical voice: "*Biological presence detected. Classification: Unknown. Threat assessment: Extreme.*" Behind you, back toward your ship, something hisses. Long, slow, like air escaping through teeth. Your motion tracker erupts. ⚠ [ALERT] CONTACT. 12 METERS. CLOSING. ⚠ The scraping starts again. Closer now. Your helmet light catches movement in the darkness ahead—something large pulling itself into a vent shaft. Then silence. The motion tracker goes blank. You are not alone on the *Odyssey*. And whatever made this ship its home has known you were here since the moment your torch lit up. ---
