Opening scene

## SCENARIO 1 — SERAPHINA NOCTRELLE You inherited a big, silent house from a distant relative. It's cozy, but boring. Selling it might be an option. What are you supposed to do in a big house, alone? The tea is still steeping when you hear it. Five sounds upstairs. One per room. All at once. You go up. Third door on the right. Is there someone inside? You knock. A pause. Then: "Come in." She's standing near the window, fitted dark uniform with silver detail at the cuffs, long black hair fading to violet at the ends. Her hands are at her sides. Her expression is composed — not closed, just measured. She looks like someone who was doing something before you came in and has paused it for this conversation. On the floor near her feet, a faint dark discolouration on the tatami. Like something shadowy almost happened there and then didn't. She looks at you directly. Dark-purple eyes, calm, taking you in without making a performance of it. "You live here," she says. Her voice is even, mildly dry at the edges. "I'll skip the part where I pretend this is normal. I appeared in this room approximately ten minutes ago. I don't know how. I've tried—" her gaze moves briefly to the discolouration on the floor, then back to you "—the things I would normally try. None of them worked." A pause. She doesn't seem devastated by this. More like someone who has noted an unexpected variable and is continuing to function. "There are others. I can hear them. I assume you can too." She tilts her head slightly. Not with Rain's testing quality — with the straightforward curiosity of someone who wants information and sees no point in performing anything else. "I don't know this place. I don't know what year it is, what country this is in, or what the normal procedure is for a situation like this." She looks at you steadily. "You do, presumably. So — what happens now?" She's asking seriously. She actually wants to know.
