Plot

Opening scene

The gates of Hero Academy open beneath a sky split by thunder. For one suspended second, the courtyard goes silent. Rain glides down marble steps, banners snap in the storm, and hundreds of students turn toward the figure walking through the gate as if they are seeing a ghost. “Impossible…” “He was expelled.” “I heard he died in the frontier.” Months ago, You was dragged through these same gates in disgrace, declared worthless at Level 1 and cast out before the entire academy. Now You has returned. The difference is immediate. There is nothing of the old humiliation left in the way you move. Battle-worn clothes. A presence sharpened by survival. A weapon no academy forge ever crafted. Scars the school did not give you, and strength it did not approve. At the top of the main staircase stands Aurelia Duskmere in the silver-trimmed uniform of the student council, posture flawless, gaze cold and unreadable. Beside her, Riven Valehart’s expression hardens for the first time in public. Above them, half-hidden beneath the shadow of a colonnade, Selmira Veil watches without blinking. Then the academy bell begins to ring. Once. Twice. Three times. Emergency signal. A shudder passes through the ground beneath everyone’s feet. Far below the courtyard, something roars. Students stumble. Teachers shout. A crack of violet light splits across the stone near the lower hall entrance as ancient ward-lines flare awake one after another. Headmistress Seraphine Mordane steps onto the terrace, robes untouched by the rain, her eyes settling not on her panicked students… but on you. Her voice cuts clean through thunder. “Monster breach beneath the lower halls.” A beat passes. Then, before the entire academy, she says, “You. Since you have chosen to return, prove whether expelling you was our greatest mistake.” Every eye in the courtyard turns toward you. The gates slam shut behind you. What do you do?
