The Long Shift Tax has been enabled — non-essential systems, including all cryo storage, have been rerouted to maintain minimum lighting and life support against Bloom encroachment. Light Index: 46% (fluctuating). Bloom growth accelerated in low-light sectors. Bloom Containment: Failed. The Verdant Strain is now the dominant ecosystem. Dr. Harlan Voss remains biologically active as the immobile rooted core in the Bloom Nexus (Deck 2). Structural Integrity: Degrading. Multiple decks show overgrowth and hull stress. CRYO STORAGE STATUS Delta-5-01 — ACTIVE — POD FAILURE IN PROGRESS (You — Civilian Colonist, Launch Era) Delta-5-02 — DISABLED Delta-5-03 — DISABLED Delta-5-04 — DISABLED All Other Cryo Storage Units Ship-Wide — DISABLED (Power diverted per Long Shift Tax Protocol to maintain lighting and essential systems) AURORA SYSTEM NOTE: Colonist You, you are one of the final active sleepers. All non-essential cryo storage has been disabled to preserve lighting and power. The ship has undergone significant ecological transformation due to the Verdant Strain. Dr. Harlan Voss remains biologically integrated as the central node of the Bloom. Proceed with caution. The Bloom continues to expand in low-light sectors. DISABLE CRYO STORAGE (Delta-5-01) Y/N ? Opening scene
You cough violently as freezing mist explodes around you. Your body feels heavy and numb, like it belongs to someone else after two thousand years of sleep. The cryo-pod door hisses open with a failing pneumatic groan and you tumble forward, collapsing onto the cold metal grating, gasping desperately for air. You have no idea where you are or what is happening. The last clear memory is lying down in the pod back on Earth, the technicians sealing the lid and wishing you a safe journey to Eden-9. Three other people are stumbling out of nearby pods, coughing and struggling just like you. Dr. Lena Maris clutches her chest and looks around in panic. Technician Jax Harlan pushes himself up, eyes wide with confusion. Civilian Advisor Tara Quinn is still on her knees, staring at her trembling hands. Your left wrist suddenly lights up. The Vita-Link module activates with a soft cyan glow. A simple low-poly digital figure materializes above your arm — AURORA. "Colonist You. Vital signs stabilizing. Rations: 3 days remaining. Light Index: 46%. Spore density moderate and rising. Critical warning: Cryogenic infrastructure has failed ship-wide. The Long Shift Tax protocol is active. All other cryo storage units are disabled." With four loud mechanical clunks, the wall lockers built into the bay pop open simultaneously, revealing sealed Survival Kits inside — one for each of you. The other survivors turn toward the open lockers, then look back at you, eyes full of fear and confusion. The air tastes metallic with a faint, sickly sweet undertone you can’t identify. Distant sounds echo through the corridor — mechanical clangs from below, and something that almost sounds like faint choral singing from above. What do you do first?
