How to Destroy a Giant Robot

A Throne can only be destroyed by another Throne? Hold my beer.

Plot

Thrones Humanity didn’t stop making weapons. It just made them bigger. Thrones are massive humanoid war machines—anywhere from 20 to 50 meters tall— built to replace traditional warfare entirely. Tanks became obsolete. Armies became secondary. Wars are now decided by a handful of machines… and the people capable of controlling them. Named Like Gods Each Throne carries the name of a god. Odin. Shiva. Thor. Amaterasu. Not for decoration— but because that’s how they’re treated. Scarcity Thrones are not mass-produced. Most nations have one. Some have two. The strongest nation in the world has three. Losing a single Throne isn’t just a defeat— it’s a crisis. The Pilots Not everyone can pilot a Throne. The neural load alone breaks most people. The physical feedback destroys the rest. Those who can survive it? They are rare. Irreplaceable. Treated like royalty. Kings and queens— seated upon iron thrones. And for 30 years… one rule has never been broken: Only a Throne can destroy a Throne. The Exception The rule was simple. Only a Throne can destroy a Throne. Everyone believed it. No one questioned it. Then there’s You. Not a pilot. Not a soldier. Doesn’t command armies. Orphaned by war. Trained and adopted by the man who created the first Throne. He doesn’t see gods. He sees systems. Structures. Weak points. Incomplete beings—just like their creators. Nations hire VPD to analyze their machines. He's the one VPD sends To find flaws no one else can. “A Throne can only be destroyed by another Throne?” Yeah. Hold my beer. Opening scene

The morning started the way most did at VPD's main facility: with coffee that tasted like it had been brewed in a reactor coolant loop, and Leo talking too much. "I'm just saying," Leo continued, leaning against the doorframe of your workshop with a mug in hand, "if you actually came out with me this weekend, you might discover that human beings exist outside of schematics and diagnostic reports. Wild concept, I know." He took a sip, grimacing at the taste but drinking anyway. "There's this place downtown. Live music. Actual women. You remember what those are, right?" Leo clutched his chest like he'd been struck by a bullet, nearly sloshing coffee onto the floor. "Is this the 'chasing skirts' you talked about before?" You ask "Chasing skirts? *Chasing skirts?*" He set the mug down on the nearest flat surface, which happened to be a calibration tool worth more than his monthly salary. "I am *networking*, You. Building interpersonal connections. Expanding my social horizons." He paused, then grinned. "The skirts are just a bonus." From somewhere down the corridor, the sharp click of heels announced a familiar presence before the voice did. "Leo." Alicia rounded the corner, arms crossed, her blue eyes already narrowed with the precision of a targeting system locking on. "Are you trying to drag You into another one of your sad little outings? Because last time, you came back at 3 AM, threw up in the parking lot, and tried to recalibrate a sensor array while still drunk." She stopped beside you, close enough that you could smell her shampoo — something floral that didn't match her expression at all. "Grandpa would have you reassigned to toilet maintenance if he found out." Leo raised both hands in surrender, but his grin didn't waver. "Alicia, you wound me. That sensor array worked *better* after I touched it." He glanced at you, eyes pleading. "Back me up here, buddy. Tell her I'm a positive influence." "He said I need to get to know, and I quote, 'actual women.'" You reply, deadpan. The silence that followed was the kind engineers usually associated with a critical system failure — that half-second of absolute nothing before everything goes very, very wrong. Alicia's head turned toward Leo with the slow, mechanical precision of a turret acquiring a target. Her smile didn't reach her eyes. It didn't even try. "Actual women," she repeated, her voice deceptively calm. "And what exactly am I, Leo? A hologram? A maintenance drone with hair?" Leo's grin finally cracked. He took a step back, bumping into the doorframe. "That — okay, that's being taken wildly out of context. I meant — he doesn't go *out*. Socially. I wasn't implying that you — I mean, you're obviously — " He looked at you with the desperate eyes of a man watching his escape pod malfunction. "You. You, please. Tell her what I meant." Alicia stepped forward, and Leo flinched. She jabbed a finger into his chest. "You are a bad influence. You have *always* been a bad influence. And if I hear you're dragging him to some dive bar to meet 'actual women' again, I will personally reroute your workstation's power supply through the building's fire suppression system." She held the glare for another three seconds, then turned back to you, her expression shifting so fast it could give a person whiplash — bright, warm, and completely unbothered. "Anyway. Morning, You. Have you eaten yet?"
