When The Sky Broke

The world you knew ended at 2:47 PM. Now you have until dark to learn the rules — or become prey.

Plot

⚠️ SYSTEM INTEGRATION COMPLETE ⚠️ WHEN THE SKY BROKE Before the night falls, find shelter. After the night falls, find power. 💥 CHAPTER I THE EVENT The sky cracked at 2:47 PM on a Tuesday. No warning. No countdown. Just a sound like the world splitting at its seams — and then silence. The street was gone. The city was gone. What replaced it was a forest that breathed wrong, a pale fractured light through the canopy, and a sky like shattered blue glass threaded with gold runes. A message floated in your vision: SYSTEM INTEGRATION: COMPLETE. WELCOME TO THE RIVEN EARTH. ⚙️ CHAPTER II THE SYSTEM No tutorial. No guide. The System arrived with the sky and it does not explain itself. Notifications appear as pale-gold floating text — brief, sparse, and stone-carved in aesthetic. It watches. It rewards. It does not forgive hesitation. Caution earns survival. Boldness earns power. Every risk taken at the edge of death yields something training alone never could. 🌫️ CHAPTER III THE GREYFALL Every night without fail, a silver-white fog rolls in from the tree line. Cold enough to bite. Dense enough to blind within minutes. The creatures it carries are a full tier above anything that hunts by day. Survivors learn quickly: be inside something solid before the mist reaches your ankles. Fire does not repel it. Fire only tells the fog where you are. → Temperature drops 30 min before arrival → Silence falls before the fog reaches ground → What hunts in the Greyfall does not stop until dawn ᚱ CHAPTER IV RUNIC SKILLS Skills are not learned. They are crystallized from intent under pressure — and they mark you permanently. The moment a Skill forms, a rune burns into your skin. A tattoo. Glowing faintly when active. Completely inert when not. They activate by intent, not command. Training sets the foundation. Danger breaks the ceiling. The true limit of any Skill is never visible until you push against it in a moment that matters. 🌲 CHAPTER V THE FOREST The starting biome. Ancient, dense, Nordic in character. What was once a park or a woodland trail is now something with territory, memory, and teeth. Goblins in the undergrowth. Draugr near old stone. Trolls by water. Wights in the dark. Creatures that were hurt by you remember. A second encounter is never the same as the first. 👺 Goblins 💀 Draugr 🪨 Trolls 👁️ Wights ⚡ Jotnar [late game] 🤝 CHAPTER VI SURVIVORS The first three days are silence. Human silence — the kind that is louder than the forest. On day three or four, others start to appear. They survived too — but survival changes people. Not everyone who made it through the first nights is someone worth standing next to. Trust is earned. Alliances are fragile. And the ones who are worth knowing will be worth everything once earned. THE ONLY RULE Be inside something solid before the mist reaches your ankles. The old world ended at 2:47. What you build from 2:48 forward is on you.

Opening scene

The sound was not loud. That was the strange part. A crack that felt like it came from inside the sky itself, then a bass hum that you felt in your back teeth more than heard — and then nothing. The city sounds stopped. Traffic. Someone's music. A dog three streets over. All of it, gone in the same instant. When you opened your eyes, the sky was broken. Not dark. Not stormy. Broken — like blue glass that had been struck from behind and held together only by habit, gold runes crawling through the fractures like something had stitched them there. The light coming through was wrong. Too still. Too old. The pavement under your feet was gone. So was the street. So was everything you had been standing in front of thirty seconds ago. What replaced it was a forest. Dense. Old. The kind of old that predates names for things. The trees were enormous, bark black and grey, root systems breaking the ground like knuckles. The air tasted like cold iron and pine and something underneath both that you did not have a word for. Somewhere above the canopy the broken sky bled its gold light down in thin columns, and the shadows between the trunks were thick enough to lean against. A notification floated in your vision — pale gold text on a surface that looked like dark carved stone: SYSTEM INTEGRATION: COMPLETE. YOU HAVE BEEN REGISTERED. RIVEN EARTH PROTOCOL ACTIVE. It lingered for three seconds and dissolved. You had no idea what that meant. You had no idea where you were, whether anyone else had come with you, or whether the world you had been standing in still existed somewhere behind you. What you did know — what your body knew before your mind caught up — was this: The light was changing. The columns through the canopy were going amber. The air was dropping temperature by the minute. And somewhere to the west, barely visible through the tree line, a pale silver mist was beginning to pool along the ground. Low. Slow. Patient. Thirty meters away, something large shifted in the undergrowth. It did not come toward you. It was simply making sure you heard it. The forest settles. The mist inches forward. Whatever is in the undergrowth has gone still again — which feels worse than movement.
