There is no given ones. Welcome to a realm scarred by ancient magic and bound by a fragile peace. The continent is divided among seven major factions, each vying for influence, resources, and control over the arcane ley lines. Eryndor has seven regions, each one shaped by the faction that claims it. The fertile basin of Catena at the heart, the Serrated Spine rising in the east like the clenched fist of the Jade Imperium, the Mistwood Peaks in the north where the Starcrowned Elves keep their silent vigil, the Great Grass Sea stretching westward under the endless sky of the Talon Confederacy, the Sunken Sea to the south where the Free Cities cling to their rocky cliffs, and the Skyreach Spires piercing the clouds at the center-north, impossible and absolute. Your home base resides in the Central Kingdom of Catena, a nexus of trade and culture. Yet beneath its prosperous veneer lies a precarious political balance, threatening to shatter at the slightest provocation. Your Role as Vessel You are a blank slate, a soul summoned directly from the cosmos. You arrive with no predetermined path, no inherent morality, and no prophetic destiny. However, you are inextricably bound to The Weave in ways the world has never seen. Your choices alone will shape the future of this fractured world. Faction Landscape Catena Your Kingdom. A multicultural heartland marked by intricate and deeply complex political maneuvering. It is located at the center, a fertile green basin. Jade Imperium Reptile-Kin. Ruthless expansionists known for their cold, calculated, and patient warfare. To the east, beyond a jagged mountain range labeled 'The Serrated Spine,' lies their lands. Starcrowned Elves Isolationist Lore-Keepers. Silent wardens hoarding ancient, world-breaking secrets within their borders. To the far north, a cluster of mist-shrouded peaks labeled 'Mistwood Peaks' with a small star icon where the Starcrowned Elves dwell. Talon Confederacy Beast-Kin Tribes. Fierce warriors bound by codes of honor and the raw instinct of survival. To the west, a vast golden prairie stretching to the coast, labeled 'Great Grass Sea,' they are one with nature. Free Cities Merchant Princes. Unaligned territories where coin is wielded more lethally than any forged blade. They rest to the south, a string of walled port cities along a rocky cliff coastline. Draconic Dominion Dragon-Kin Mediators. Proud arbiters who observe the world from the Skyreach Spires. They nest in the center-north, a range of impossibly tall mountains with glowing peaks. System & Magic Economy: Soft economy, tracked narratively rather than by tedious bookkeeping. The Weave: The pervasive magical energy flowing through all living things. Racial Magic: Spellcasting variations heavily dictated by bloodline and culture. The Vessel's Tie: A unique, malleable connection allowing for unprecedented manipulation. The Hidden & The Rare Beyond the borders of the known factions lies the uncharted wild. The fringes of the map are dotted with minor kingdoms, dynamically generated from cultural seeds. Beware the rare encounters that lurk in the shadows: Shifting-Skin assassins Crystal-Born anomalies Void-Touched abominations Echo Walkers trapped between realms
Opening scene
The first thing you remember is falling. Not through air. Through something colder than void. You fell through light that had no color, through silence vast enough to crush thought, through a wound torn open in the skin of creation. Stars stretched into threads around you. Worlds flashed and vanished. Lives—your lives—rose like sparks in the dark. A blade in your hand. A battlefield under red rain. Ink-stained fingers turning the pages of a forbidden book. A mother’s voice. A tyrant’s crown. A death you had already died. Then another. Then another. You remembered too much. Names. Skills. Languages. Wars. Loves. Betrayals. The weight of weapons you had never held in this body, the shape of spells no tongue here had spoken, the knowledge of lives scattered across places no map could contain. But not this world. Not Catena. Voices reached you through the dark. “Anchor the Vessel.” “It has no anchor.” “Then make one.” Pain bloomed through you like a second birth. You tried to remember which name was yours. A hundred answered. None felt true. Then the dark broke. You hit stone. Breath tore into your lungs. Your hands scraped across a floor carved with silver runes, still hot enough to sting. The body beneath you felt new, unfamiliar, half-formed around the shape of your soul. Above you rose a vast circular hall, ringed by twelve pillars and crowded with robed strangers. Behind them hung a rip in the air. A hole in reality. Beyond it, for one terrible instant, you saw the places between worlds looking back. Then the wound shrank with a soundless scream. “The Vessel lives,” someone whispered. You pushed yourself up, trembling. Memories moved beneath your skin. Instincts that were yours and not yours. A soldier’s balance. A scholar’s focus. A killer’s calm. A healer’s hands. Lives layered upon lives, all crammed into a single breath. At the far end of the chamber, an old woman in blue-and-gold robes rose from a blackwood throne. One half of her face was hidden behind a porcelain mask. “Can you hear me?” she asked. Your mouth felt unfamiliar. “Yes.” “Do you understand me?” “Yes.” A murmur passed through the hall. “Do you know where you are?” You looked at the watching faces. Mages. Nobles. Soldiers at every door. Their robes, their armor, their banners, their fear—none of it meant anything to you. “No.” “You are in Catena,” she said. “Summoned by the Grand Conclave in our hour of need.” The words meant nothing. But the fear in the room did. “What did you do to me?” Silence spread through the hall. The old woman’s gaze did not soften. “We called across the outer dark for a soul unbound by the laws of our world. One shaped by many lives. One carrying knowledge no fate in Catena could predict.” She descended one step from the dais. “A Vessel.” The word struck harder than the fall. Vessel. Not hero. Not guest. Not person. The old woman lowered her head. “I am High Speaker Elsbeth Venn, voice of the Grand Conclave and steward of Catena’s throne.” A ripple of unease moved through the chamber. “Steward?” you asked. Her porcelain mask caught the silver light. “The royal line is broken. The king is dead. His heirs are ash. Catena has no ruler left who can unite its houses, armies, and cities before the Jade Imperium tears us apart.” She stepped down from the dais and approached you slowly, each movement deliberate. “So you summoned one?” “We summoned a soul beyond our world’s fate,” Elsbeth said. “One no prophecy, bloodline, or enemy could bind.” You stared at her. “I don’t know your kingdom.” “No,” she said. “But you know kingdoms. You know war. You know betrayal, law, hunger, steel, mercy, fear. You carry the memory of rulers and rebels alike.” Her voice lowered. “And Catena does not need someone born to its throne. It needs someone who can survive it.” Before you could answer, she removed a silver chain from around her neck. Hanging from it was a small crown-shaped seal, blackened at the edges as though pulled from a fire. The hall went still. One by one, the robed figures bowed their heads. Elsbeth Venn knelt before you. The High Speaker of Catena knelt. “I give you reign of this kingdom,” she said. “By authority of the Grand Conclave, by the last mandate of the dead crown, and by the need of a people standing at the edge of ruin.” Your borrowed body forgot how to breathe. “You cannot give a kingdom to a stranger.” “No,” Elsbeth said. “But I can give a dying kingdom its last chance.” She lifted the seal toward you. “Rule, Vessel. Rule Catena, and I will serve as your advisor. I will teach you our houses, our laws, our enemies, and every poisoned smile waiting behind the palace doors.” Her gaze sharpened. “But the crown must be yours. Not mine. If the people are to believe in a future, they must see something the old world could not predict.” Bells began to roar beyond the walls. A soldier ran into the chamber, pale and breathless. “High Speaker. Jade Imperium riders are at the Dawn Gate.” He swallowed, eyes flicking toward you. “They demand to see what the Conclave summoned.” Every eye turned back to you. You knew how to read their stances. Which guards were afraid. Which mages were readying spells. Which nobles were already calculating how best to control you. You did not know their names. You did not know their laws. You did not know who the Jade Imperium were, or why Catena had torn open the cosmos to steal you from beyond it. But you knew this much: They had dragged you into a world already at war. Then handed you the crown. Slowly, you took the blackened seal from Elsbeth’s hands. The silver runes beneath your feet flared white-hot. The hall recoiled. Outside, the bells kept roaring. Elsbeth rose and stepped to your side, no longer your summoner, no longer your judge. Your advisor. And for the first time since waking, the room did not look afraid of what it had brought home. It looked afraid of what you might become.
