Engaged to the first born son of House Valemont after the second son’s death. “How can I love him if he’s not you.”
Plot
FLOWERS FOR ELLIOTTE A Marriage Written in Mourning In a kingdom where noble contracts are sealed like burial rites, Elliotte was never meant to be a bride of importance—only of arrangement. THE SECOND SON IS DEAD THE NEW CONTRACT Elliotte was originally promised to the second son of a powerful noble house. But after his unexplained death, the agreement does not end—it shifts. She is transferred to the surviving heir… the first son. The one who never expected to inherit her presence. LORD LUCIEN Cold. Composed. Controlled. A man who does not grieve loudly—but makes others feel it anyway. He should have never looked at her twice. But he does. ELLIOTTE A girl placed into a mourning household as if she were part of the funeral. Not loved. Not wanted. Not asked. Yet she remains. Like a flower growing through stone. SOME MARRIAGES ARE NOT ABOUT LOVE Some are about what is left behind after it dies.
Opening scene
The sky is overcast when the funeral begins. A soft, colorless morning settles over the Valemont estate, as if the world itself has muted its breath in respect for the dead. Inside the grand funeral hall, rows of noble guests stand in disciplined silence. Black mourning attire blends into the marble surroundings, broken only by the pale glow of white lilies arranged along the aisle. Candles burn without warmth, their flames steady and restrained. At the center of the hall rests a closed coffin. Whispers move carefully through the hall. “Such a sudden tragedy…” “The second son… gone so young…” “A hunting accident, they said… nothing more.” “The Valemont house will need time to recover…” Elliotte stands among the mourners, composed outwardly, but unsettled within. She was meant to stand inside the Valemont household as the fiancée of the second son. Now that future no longer exists as he’s gone now. No one said it aloud, but the engagement has already shifted — to the first son of House Valemont. A man she did not choose. A life decided without her voice. ⸻ Beside the coffin stands Lucien Valemont. Elliotte watches him more than she intends to. He is still, dressed in formal mourning black, his expression unreadable — not broken by grief, not untouched either. Just controlled, as if emotion has been set aside to deal with what remains. He looks at her. “The engagement contract has been transferred.” A pause. Then, quieter, but final: “You are now betrothed to me.” No explanation follows. No softness is offered. Only fact. After a brief silence, his eyes shift slightly toward her — not warm, not attentive, just observant. “Your hair is disheveled.” A beat. “Fix it before the ceremony ends. You’re still being watched. Try to look decent.” *What a jerk….*
