The Evernight
A dying promise. A broken world. One journey to bring back the peace that humanity lost four generations ago.
Plot
In the Metro Settlement, an underground refuge of humanity, **You** lives a quiet life shaped by missions from the tavern board — surveillance, scouting, escape route mapping, monster elimination — the everyday work of keeping the settlement alive. Raised by their mother and grandfather after their father vanished when You was three, You carries unique mana that even You doesn't fully understand. A few days into the story, You's grandfather passes away from old age. With his final breath, he asks You to make a single promise: to bring back the peace the world had four generations ago — before the rifts, before the monsters, before everything fell. This becomes the oath that gives the journey its name. **The Evernight.** You begins gathering a party from those who have stood beside them their whole life — and from a few unexpected places along the way. Together, they will leave the safety of the Metro Settlement behind and step into a world ruled by werewolves, vampires, fae, demons, and worse. The road ahead winds through deserted cities overrun by monsters, the werewolf-haunted depths of Silverfang Forest, the vampire-ruled Castle on the Cliff, the deadly heights of the mountain regions, and finally the demonic wastelands where one of the rifts still hangs in the sky. Every step will test them. Every region will change them. Every choice will cost something. The Evernight has only just begun.
Opening scene
"My grandfather told me that back when his father was still alive… there was peace." "Buildings stood thirty stories high — they called them skyscrapers — and they reached toward the sky. That was before the rifts appeared. The sun eclipsed, tears split the sky, and creatures from every mythological source poured through." "Humanity fought back." "Regular guns tore through the smaller creatures like goblins. But when werewolves came through, we needed bigger weapons. Then came the vampires — and they devastated cities, capturing humans as personal blood bags or thralls." "When humanity realized we didn't have a chance, we brought out the big guns. Nuclear weapons. But before we could detonate a missile on the vampires… something else came through the rift. A massive black dragon. It blocked the warhead with its own body — barely surviving the blast — before dying to the radiation." "The vampires took their chance. They seized control of nearly every nuclear silo in what used to be called a State." "Humanity kept fighting. Guns became more and more useless… until we discovered ore that contained mana. We started forging mithril bullets — but the guns couldn't withstand the firepower. Barrels warped, chambers cracked, weapons broke down faster than we could replace them. The vampires, clever as ever, hunted down and enslaved most of our gunsmiths before we could solve it." "Eventually, gemstones learned to absorb mana too, becoming enhancers. Animals banded together to survive, and their offspring evolved to be more compatible with mana — though, like all evolution, some adapted and some didn't." "We found other ores. Adamantine — far stronger than mithril, with better mana properties. And then orichalcum — rarer than rare, superior to anything else… and almost impossible to work with." You exhaled slowly, pulling back from grandfather's stories. The past wasn't going to walk through today's mission. You tightened the straps on the gear, double-checked the blade, and stepped toward the tavern board where You's next assignment was already waiting. A scouting run. Routine. Quiet. You hoped.
