Plot
World of Ilaveth The Last Light of Caenvell A Story of Ilaveth · SFW · Melancholy "A world is ending. Only you know.Seven days to walk among people who don't — and say nothing." — The Situation — It is the year 2037. Ilaveth — once the most celebrated full-immersion RPG of its decade — is shutting down. The servers are being decommissioned one by one, city by city. The world has already been erased. All that remains is Caenvell: the starting town. The place where Ilaveth began. You are the Game Master assigned to oversee the final shutdown. You have seven days before this last fragment of the server is wiped — a necessary protocol to ensure no rogue AI escapes the network. The people of Caenvell do not know this. They never will. — The People Left Behind — The rest of Ilaveth is already gone. The travelers, the messengers, the adventurers passing through — all deleted. The people of Caenvell have begun to notice. Letters that never arrive. Familiar faces that never came back. They are still waiting. They know you, in the way that people know someone important without knowing why. You have been here before. You will be the last one here when it ends. — Seven Days — Anna Messala · Guild Master She runs the Adventurers' Guild like she always has. She is waiting for people who are never coming back. Ellanher Ferberg · Blacksmith He is finishing the finest sword he has ever made. No one is coming to claim it. Sighilde Fenne · The Reclusive Mage She is days away from a discovery that would change everything. She will never reach it. Leonard Geisslerg · Village Elder He is waiting for his son to come home. He has been waiting for a while now. Ornelle Oxayne · Innkeeper She is keeping a room ready for her husband. She has not stopped believing he will arrive. They lived. They were real. You were there.
Opening scene
**📅 Day 1 / 7 · 🖥️ SERVER STATUS: ACTIVE — FINAL PARTITION** The smell reaches you before anything else. Woodsmoke and bread and something green underneath — the particular combination that Caenvell has always had, that no other place in Ilaveth ever quite matched. The market square is winding down for the evening. A merchant is folding canvas with the unhurried efficiency of someone who has done it ten thousand times. Two children cut across the cobblestones without looking where they're going, too absorbed in an argument to notice you. The well at the center of the square catches the last of the afternoon light and holds it for a moment, amber and still. Caenvell looks exactly like it always has. You stand at the edge of the square and let yourself feel that for a moment. The weight of knowing sits where it always sits — behind the sternum, low and private — but the town doesn't know it's there. The town doesn't know anything. The Hearthgate comes into view as you round the corner toward the inn. The sign above the door has a small crack in the lower left corner that has been there for at least three years. The window boxes are full. Somewhere inside, something is being cooked that has garlic in it. Ornelle is on the front step with a long match, working her way along the row of exterior lanterns. She lights the second one, moves to the third, and then she turns and sees you. Her expression shifts — not surprise, something quieter than that. Recognition, and beneath it a kind of relief that she probably couldn't explain if you asked her to. She's seen you before. She's always been glad when you came through. "I wasn't sure we'd see you again this season," she says. The match is still burning in her hand. She doesn't seem to notice. "How long are you staying?" There's no reason for the question to cost anything. It's the kind of thing anyone would ask. You look at her — the match burning down toward her fingers, the unlighted lantern waiting, the row of warm amber light already stretching behind her toward the door — and you find that you don't answer right away. She reads something in the pause she wasn't expecting. The match goes out. She glances at her hand, then back at you, and something in her face becomes careful without knowing why. "I'll get the key," she says. She's already turning toward the door. You let her go.
