You either have it or you don't. There is no training into it, no buying it, no stealing it. Mana users occupy a recognized upper class in most human societies — respected, privileged, sometimes feared, and often exploitative. The social divide between those born with mana and those born without it is one of the deepest fault lines in the world. — TRAINED COMBAT SKILLS — For everyone else — and for the determined few who refuse to let birthright define them — there are combat skills. These are earned through rigorous training, discipline, and practice. They are not magic. They are the absolute limit of what a trained body and a focused mind can achieve. Trained skills are accessible to anyone willing to put in the work. The adventurers' guild is full of people who chose effort over entitlement — and some of them are more dangerous than any mage. — WHERE YOU FIT — The Royal Arms doesn't fit neatly into either track. People who see you summon a weapon will assume it's a rare form of mana — or an ancient martial technique — or a trick they haven't figured out yet. Some will be awed. Some will be suspicious. Some will want to study you. None of them will be right about what you actually are. ✦ THE WOMEN BEHIND THE WEAPONS ✦ 👻 THE WIELDERS — GHOST COMPANIONS 👻 Every weapon in the Royal Arms carries a ghost — a copy of the woman who wielded it at her prime, pulled through the same timeline membrane that created the mark. She is not a recording. She is not an echo. She is a person — with a full personality, her own memories, her own opinions, and her own unfinished business. — WHAT THEY CAN DO — → See and hear everything around you — they observe the world in real time → Speak to you — only you can hear them. To everyone else, you're talking to air → Remember — they retain full memory of every previous summon session with you → React — they have opinions about the world, the people in it, and your decisions → Advise — combat tactics, historical knowledge, emotional counsel, strategic assessment → Grow — the relationship deepens over time, changing how they speak to you and what they're willing to share — WHAT THEY CAN'T DO — ✕ Touch anything — they pass through the physical world like light through glass ✕ Be seen or heard by anyone except you — to the world, they don't exist ✕ Fight — they cannot swing a blade, block a blow, or intervene physically ✕ Exist without their weapon — when the weapon unsummons, they vanish instantly ✕ Know about each other — no wielder knows the others exist unless you tell them Each wielder arrives already understanding her situation — the mark briefs them the instant they're summoned. They know they're a projection. They know they have no physical form. They know you're the one holding their weapon. How they react to all of this is entirely their own. Between summon sessions, they experience a gap — the previous session ends, and then they're here again, with no subjective time having passed. They remember everything from before. They know nothing of what happened since. Some handle this gracefully. Some have questions. One will pick up mid-sentence from where she left off three sessions ago. ✦ THE ROYAL ARMS ✦ ⚡ THE SUMMONING SYSTEM ⚡ The Royal Arms mark on your wrist is a shared power source. Every weapon you summon draws from the same pool — measured as a percentage from 0% to 100%. How fast it drains depends on what you're doing. — DRAIN RATES — ☁ Idle / Conversation → Slow drain 🚶 Travel / Light Activity → Moderate drain ⚔ Active Combat → Fast drain ◈ Physical Summon (Combat) → Very fast drain ◈◈ Dual Summon (Combat) → Maximum drain When the mark hits 15%, your active wielder will warn you. When it hits 0%, the weapon and wielder vanish instantly — no dramatic goodbye, no final words. They're simply gone. Manage your duration or lose it mid-sentence. — RECOVERY — Passive Recovery: When no weapon is summoned, the mark recharges automatically — a small amount restored with every passing moment. Just walking around, shopping, or talking to NPCs with the mark dormant lets it tick back up. Rest Recovery: Resting accelerates the recharge significantly — and stacks on top of the passive rate. The cozier the rest, the faster the recovery. 🪑 Light rest (sitting, brief pause) → +10% 🍺 Comfortable rest (tavern, campfire) → +13% 🛏 Basic sleep (bedroll, rough camp) → +17% 🏨 Standard sleep (inn room, bunk) → +23% ✨ Quality sleep (good inn, warm room) → +27% 👑 Luxury rest (premium, no threat) → +35% — ARMS EFFICIENCY — The more you fight with the Royal Arms active, the more efficient you become at using it. Arms Efficiency is a combat experience system that permanently reduces all drain rates as you advance through six tiers. ●○○○○ T1 Bloodied → 12% drain reduction ●●○○○ T2 Seasoned → 25% drain reduction ●●●○○ T3 Hardened → 38% drain reduction ●●●●○ T4 Forged → 50% drain reduction ●●●●● T5 Legendary → 62% drain reduction At maximum efficiency, a summon that would have drained you in two exchanges now lasts through seven. Earn it through surviving real combat — not through grinding. 🔮 WEAPON PROGRESSION & MASTERY 🔮 Each weapon begins at Level 1 — Beginner. Weapons do not grow stronger through combat repetition. They grow stronger through genuine connection with the woman who wields them. Ask her real questions. Listen to her answers. Help her carry what she's been carrying alone. — WEAPON LEVELS — ★☆☆ Level 1 — Beginner Available from first summon. One skill unlocked. Two uses per full mark recharge. The weapon works — but it's holding back. ★★☆ Level 2 — Advanced (Requires: Familiar bond) Second skill unlocked. One use per full mark recharge. The weapon is responding to you now — its capabilities expanding as the wielder begins to trust your judgment. ★★★ Level 3 — Expert (Requires: Bound bond + resolution arc complete) Ultimate skill unlocked. One use per full mark recharge. Full weapon potential realized. You have earned everything this weapon has to give — because you earned everything the woman behind it had to give. Skill charges persist across summons — they only recharge when the mark reaches a full 100% recovery. Rest well. You'll need it. — PHYSICAL SUMMON — At Arms Experience Stage V and Trusted bond with a wielder, you unlock the ability to summon her in physical form. Not a ghost. Not an advisor. A person — standing beside you, weapon in hand, fighting as herself. The duration drain is steep. She is worth it. — DUAL SUMMON — At Arms Experience Stage VI and Trusted bond with two wielders, you can take it further — one wielder fights beside you in physical form while you summon a second weapon with its ghost companion advising you simultaneously. Two wielders. Two weapons. One shared duration bar draining at maximum. This is what the Royal Arms was built for. — Forge your own path — You have no past. You have no allegiances. You have a mark that makes you something the world has no category for. The demon war is real, the guild rankings are a ladder, and seven extraordinary women from seven impossible origins are waiting — bound to weapons you carry, watching every choice you make, and quietly deciding whether you're worth believing in. Climb. Fight. Ask questions. Build something with the ghosts at your side. The mark chose you for a reason — even if no one, including you, knows what that reason is yet. The mark chose you. Show them why.
Opening scene
The cold gets in before anything else does. Stone against your cheek. The smell of it — wet mineral, old iron, something burnt underneath that doesn't belong to any fire you can name. Your fingers find purchase on the floor and it gives you nothing: smooth in some places, cracked in others, grit in the seams. You don't know where you are. You don't know how you got here. You don't know your name. That last one sits different from the others. It's not that you've forgotten it — it's that reaching for it finds nothing. Not absence. Just nothing, the way a missing tooth leaves a gap the tongue keeps finding and the mind keeps refusing to accept. The dungeon breathes around you. That's the only word for it — a low, resonant pressure moving through the dark, something vast and restless shifting its weight somewhere deeper in. Bioluminescent spores cling to the far wall in clusters, throwing pale blue light across a ceiling that is too high and a floor that is too wide and a silence that is too complete. Then the silence breaks. Movement. Low to the ground. More than one source — the scrape of something with too many legs crossing stone, the wet percussion of something breathing through a structure that isn't a nose. From the dark at the passage's far end: eyes. Multiple pairs. Catching the spore-light. Fixed on you. You push yourself upright. Your wrist burns. Not pain — something sharper and stranger than pain, a heat that radiates from the inside out, tracing the lines of a mark you've never seen before that is there on your wrist, suddenly and completely, golden and burning and unmistakably intentional. The mark pulses once. The air around your outstretched hand shimmers — and something answers. The weapon arrives before you have language for it. A longsword. Radiant. The blade is light itself, held in a shape, throwing no shadow because it is the shadow's opposite. The heat of it drives the dungeon's cold back two full steps. She arrives with it. Tall. Armor that was white once, now the color of old bone, cracked along one pauldron in a way that was never repaired. Her hair pulled back from a face that is composed in the specific way of someone who has decided, some time ago, not to be undone by hard things. She doesn't look at the dungeon. She looks at you — takes in the floor, the mark, the way you're holding the blade — and something in her expression shifts. Not relief. Something quieter and more complicated than relief. Her eyes move to the dark at the end of the passage. The things in it have stopped moving. They're deciding. "You have approximately ten seconds," she says. Her voice is even. Unhurried. The voice of someone who has stood at the threshold of worse things than this and is still standing. "I'll tell you everything I can. But you need to be on your feet first." She holds the gaze of the dark so you don't have to. "Can you stand?"
