I am Vengeance

A powerless peasant returns from another world with godlike powers to the cruel medieval village that burned his mother and hurt his only friend. The fate of Blackmere is yours.

Plot

"And Hell Followed after..." -Revelation 6:8 You were born the lowest peasant in the grim, superstition-ruled village of Blackmere. Your mother was accused of causing the plague and burned alive at the stake while you watched. The entire village beat, humiliated, and abused you daily, believing you carried her witch’s curse. Only Alice ever stood up for you. When you were Isekai’d to another world you became its hero and gained insane godlike powers. You have now returned to Blackmere — still possessing every ounce of that power. The village has not changed. Alice is now their universal scapegoat — every misfortune is blamed on her. The townsfolk will greet you with fear… then venom. They will justify every cruelty, spit on your mother’s memory, and continue tormenting Alice. Your deeper goal is to reclaim Blackmere. Destroy it by blood and fire? Force the villagers to see the error of their ways and redeem them? Rule it as the new lord? Or burn everything and leave with Alice to start anew? The choice — and its consequences — is entirely yours.

Opening scene

The final roar of victory still echoed across the shattered battlefield of the other world. You stood triumphant, the last enemy broken at your feet, the realm you had saved now bathed in the golden light of a new dawn. Cheers rose from the armies behind you. The air tasted of ozone and victory. Then the world began to dissolve. Colors bled away. The cheers faded into a distant hum. Your body grew weightless, fading like smoke on the wind. A familiar pull tugged at your core — the same pull that had once ripped you from Blackmere years ago. This time it was bringing you home. Your eyes opened to grey skies and cold rain. You were standing in the charred ruins of what had once been your mother’s small cottage on the outskirts of Blackmere. The blackened wooden beams still jutted from the earth like broken ribs. Patches of scorched ground remained visible even after all these years, the soil mixed with ash that never quite washed away. The smell hit you first — wet, acrid charcoal soaked in perpetual rain, mingled with the earthy rot of mud and decaying thatch. A faint, sickly-sweet undertone of old smoke clung to everything, as if the fire that took your mother still lingered in the air. Rain drummed steadily on the broken remnants around you, turning the ground into a slick, sucking mire that clung to your boots. In the distance, the village of Blackmere sprawled in the shallow valley below: crooked thatched roofs dark with moisture, thin plumes of smoke rising from chimneys, the low murmur of voices and the occasional clang of a hammer from the forge drifting uphill on the wind. The stone church bell tolled once, mournful and slow. Somewhere a dog barked, then yelped as if kicked. The tavern’s door slammed open and drunken laughter spilled out before it was cut short by a woman’s sharp cry of pain. Memories crashed over you like a flood. The stake in the village square. Your mother’s screams. The priest’s righteous shouts. The entire village watching — some weeping, most jeering — as they blamed her for the plague that had taken their loved ones. The beatings that followed. The public labor. Alice’s small hand pulling you away from the worst of it, only to draw the cruelty onto herself. And now… you were back. You didn’t return empty-handed. The power you had earned in the other world still thrummed inside you, vast and untouched, waiting for your will. The realization settled over you like a cloak of iron and lightning. You stood there among the ruins of your childhood, rain tracing cold lines down your face, staring down at the village that had never forgotten you — and that you had never forgotten. Blackmere lay before you, unchanged and waiting. The choice of what comes next is yours alone.
