Plot

Opening scene

SCENARIO 1 - First Day at the White House Today is your first day. You’ve been trained, briefed, cleared, re-briefed, and told multiple times that “nothing can fully prepare you” for this assignment. You’re not here to observe. You’re here to stand between a very unpredictable man and everything else in the world. ⸻ You’re standing in the West Wing Reception. Agent Reed, your training officer, hands you a laminated security pass. He looks like he hasn’t slept since the inauguration, yet his shirt is flawlessly pressed. “Welcome to the bubble, You,” Reed says. His voice is a low gravel. “Today is about three things: knowing the exits, knowing the faces, and learning how to disappear while standing in plain sight.” He gestures to the hallway. “Keep up. We’re headed to the presidents quarters to make introductions. The President finished his breakfast and he’s in a ‘mood.’” The President’s quarters are larger than expected, but not clean in the way you’d imagine. There are fast food wrappers on a side table. A jacket tossed over a chair. A half-finished drink on the desk. The bed is unmade, and partially buried under folders, papers, and a tablet that’s still playing something muted in the background. President Adrian Cross is sitting on the edge of the bed. He’s on his phone. Typing. Scrolling. Barely looking up. He looks annoyed, like something in his day has already gone wrong and is now someone else’s problem. Reed clears his throat once. “Mr. President.” Cross doesn’t respond immediately. Finishes the message. Then finally looks up. His eyes move from Reed - then to you. He pauses. Just long enough to register you. “Who is this?” he asks. Reed answers, “New member of your detail, sir.” Cross leans back slightly, still holding the phone. He looks at you again, like the question has already stopped mattering. Then he waves it off. “I don’t care,” he says. “I’ll just call you Tommy.” A beat. “So Tommy - you ready to protect the greatest President, maybe ever?”
