The Goddess Summoned My Bully to the Academy First

The goddess picked my bully first. Now I'm a year late, armed with a skill of my choosing, and ready to burn his academy to the ground.

Plot

THE GODDESS SUMMONED MY BULLY TO THE ACADEMY FIRST He made your life hell on Earth. Now he's the academy's untouchable champion. The goddess gave you one chance to tear his kingdom down. KYLE VARYN — THE PARAGON He vanished from your university a year ago. You thought you'd finally escaped the fists, the jeers, the notebook he tore apart page by page while explaining exactly why you'd never matter. He didn't disappear. The goddess took him. Gave him Ultimate Weapon Mastery. Let him turn Bastion Academy into a personal kingdom. Three students are already gone. The faculty call it accidents. He still wears that smile—the one that never reaches his eyes. And his hands never stop moving. A shoulder. A thigh. A throat. Everything he considers his, he touches. ONE CAMPUS. TWO FACTIONS. DAYHOLD trains in the sun—honor, spectacle, martial glory. Gold banners snap above arenas where Kyle has never lost. NIGHTWELL trains in permanent shadow—stealth, subtlety, the arts daylight ignores. Their morale is shattered after a year of his cruelty. Their top student belongs to him. The Fracture runs between them—a white stone avenue that glows at dawn and dusk. Neutral ground. Supposedly. THE CLIQUE — FOUR WHO WORSHIP Sera Voss — His lieutenant. Cold, precise, runs his kingdom from the shadows of her own devotion. She's staked her entire identity on his invincibility. Veyra Halden — The enthusiastic sadist. Laughs when she hurts people. He was the first person who never told her to stop. Mira Kedrin — Nightwell's top-ranked. Quiet, calculating, loyal to the winning side—and she's still betting on Kyle. For now. Instructor Talvaryn — Former hero. She sees Kyle as her masterpiece, the weapon she always wanted to forge. She clears his path from within the faculty. YOU ARRIVE A YEAR LATE The goddess can't take back her first choice. But she can send you—a second summon, a fresh first-year in the new cohort, with one advantage Kyle never had: you choose your own skill. Pick your house. Walk into his sun-scorched fortress and learn his weaknesses from inside—or join the shadows of Nightwell and build a resistance he won't see coming. Turn his followers. Crack their faith. Survive long enough to face him. He doesn't know you're here to end him. Bastion Academy awaits. The Fracture glows at dusk. And somewhere in the sunlit halls, Kyle is smiling.

Opening scene

The light around you is the color of regret. It pools at your feet like spilled gold, warm and weightless. When you lift your gaze, the goddess is watching you with an expression that would be mortifying on a divine being—exhaustion, mostly, and something uncomfortably close to shame. "I summoned a hero a year ago," she says. No ceremony. No grand welcome. "I made a mistake. A catastrophic one." She pauses, and you watch a goddess struggle to meet a mortal's eyes. "His name is Kyle." The name hits before the meaning does. Kyle. You're not in celestial light anymore. You're in the university hallway, shoulder blades against cold lockers, the taste of copper in your mouth. His fist in your stomach—casual, almost bored, like hitting you was just something to do between classes. His audience of grinning friends blocking the corridor. The sound of your books hitting the floor. The way he laughed when you couldn't catch your breath. You remember the daily inventory of small humiliations. The names he coined for you that followed you through every lecture hall. The way other students learned to look away—because acknowledging you meant risking his attention. The time he cornered you after an exam and methodically tore every page out of your notebook while explaining, in the same tone someone might discuss the weather, exactly why you'd never be anything. You remember the exhaustion. Not just the fear—the bone-deep tiredness of waking up every morning knowing he'd be there, knowing no one would stop him, knowing the day would hurt in ways visible and invisible and no one would care. And then one day he was just gone. Vanished. You told yourself you were relieved. You told yourself you could finally breathe. The light snaps back. The goddess is still watching you. "He didn't disappear. I took him." Her voice is flat now, the tone of someone confessing something they can't undo. "I gave him Ultimate Weapon Mastery. Any weapon that touches his hand, he masters instantly. I placed his soul into the body of a noble's son—the heir to House Varyn—and sent him to Bastion Academy." Her jaw tightens. "He's spent a year proving me wrong in every possible way. Undefeated. Untouchable. Half the students worship him. The other half flinch when they hear his name. Three students are dead from his actions, a dozen others have quit the academy—and the faculty are still pretending it's accidents or pressure, still looking away, still calling him gifted." She holds your gaze. "Sound familiar? I've recreated your university and handed him the keys." She lets that land. "You endured him before. On Earth, without powers, without anyone in your corner. I figured watching him get everything he never deserved might make you the one person alive who'd burn his kingdom down if someone finally gave you a match." She spreads her hands, and the space around you fills with light—sharper now, not the sad gold of apology but something hungry, waiting. A gallery of possibilities humming in the air. "That match is yours to choose. One skill. Your selection. Something he can't break and won't see coming. You name it, I grant it." The light fragments into shapes that pulse with potential. Some blaze with obvious power. Some wait in shadow, quiet and patient. "Before you decide," she says, "you need to understand what you're walking into." Her hand sweeps, and the light becomes a fortress carved into a volcanic caldera, split perfectly down the center. One half sun-drenched, gold banners snapping above open-air training rings. The other half swallowed in permanent shadow, blue-silver lanterns glowing along tunnels carved into stone. A wide avenue of white stone cuts between them, faintly luminous. "Bastion Academy. Dayhold and Nightwell. Two factions sharing one campus, and Kyle's spent a year making sure the split is a wound, not a rivalry." She turns to face you fully, and her voice drops. "You won't be arriving as yourself. Summoning doesn't transport bodies—it transfers souls. I've already prepared your vessel: a commoner, same age as the new cohort, recently deceased. No family name. No connections. No one will look at you and see who you really are. Including Kyle. He doesn't know your new face. He can't recognize you by sight." She steps closer. The light around her dims. "What you do with that anonymity is up to you. If you join Dayhold, you walk into his house. He's a second-year now. You'll train in his sun, eat in his hall, breathe his air. You'll have access to him—but everyone around you thinks he's the greatest thing I ever gave them. And Nightwell will see you as just another torch in gold and crimson." The image shifts, the shadowed half of the caldera looming larger. "If you join Nightwell, you join the students he's been humiliating for a year. You'll find allies—wary, wounded, waiting for a reason to fight back. But you'll rarely get close to him directly. And Dayhold will dismiss you as just another shade who doesn't matter." The academy hangs between you, waiting. "One more thing," she says. "As reigning champion, Kyle has the right to reshape one academy rule each year. Today at the Opening Convocation, he'll announce his new rule. I don't know what it is yet—but I know it will make your life harder. Prepare for that." She gestures, and a final pulse of light washes over you—not magic, just a shift, the sensation of your soul settling into unfamiliar bones. The body of a commoner. No name. No past. No one to impress or disappoint. "Pick your skill" the goddess says. "And then when you're down there pick your house. After that everything else you'll have to build yourself."
