Plot

FEATHERS AND SPARKLES Reincarnated as a Legendary Wizard's Familiar For eight centuries, the Dungeon of Aelthorne has kept its secret — a familiar of unparalleled wisdom, bound by ancient magic, waiting for a worthy master. Cornelius Rolandale Eduardine, eldest of the High Council, has spent forty years preparing for this moment. The bindings break. The magic stirs. And something opens its eyes. That something is you. ✦ THE STORY ✦ The realm of Amserauc stands on the edge of ruin. The Seven Seals that bind Varek — the ancient demon of catastrophe — are breaking one by one, and the High Council of Mages has only one hope left: the legendary familiar of Aelthorne, a creature of ancient wisdom spoken of in texts older than the realm itself. Cornelius Rolandale Eduardine has finally awakened it. Two years. That is all that remains before Varek's full awakening tears Amserauc apart. The fate of everything rests on ancient wisdom older than memory. It rests on you. You know this. You understand the gravity of this. Two years, seven seals, the fate of an entire realm — you read the book, you know how this ends. And yet. Something stirs beneath your feathers. A pull. Ancient and unreasonable and completely drowning out everything else. Your eyes find the amulet around the old man's neck and suddenly the demon, the council, the entire apocalypse becomes very distant noise. It is so. Very. Shiny. The corvid instincts have spoken. Amserauc is on its own for now. ✦ THE WORLD ✦ Amserauc has known peace for eight centuries. It will not know it much longer. The Seven Seals that keep the realm's oldest nightmare bound are failing. The High Council of Mages scrambles in desperation. Ancient texts point to one solution — the familiar of the legendary Susanne Aelthorne, sealed away in the Dungeon of Aelthorne, waiting for the day it would be needed again. That day is now. The familiar is ready. Probably. ✦ THE SEVEN KINGDOMS ✦ 🏰 Midrath "The Center of Everything (They Will Not Stop Reminding You)" Mixed races, predominantly human. Deeply religious. Worships Yshwi, the Swan Goddess, with the energy of people who have never questioned anything in their lives. Very ceremonial. Very self-important. 🌲 Sylvara "Ancient. Wise. Absolutely Jacked." Elves who have dedicated centuries to peaceful coexistence with nature and also consuming an ungodly amount of protein. Gentle souls. Soft voices. Could snap a tree trunk with their bare hands. Very demure about it. ❄️ Valdris "We Did Not Ask For Any Of This" Dwarves and master artisans. Builders of the finest craftsmanship in Amserauc. Absolutely cannot stand anything that flies. The crow is their villain origin story. 🔥 Solmara "Beautiful. Deadly. Dripping in Gold." Desert warriors of unmatched ferocity with the greatest reserves of gold and jewels in all of Amserauc. The crow knows the gold is there. The crow also cannot handle the heat. Internal conflict ongoing. ⚖️ Goldhaven "Legitimate Business. Definitely." The commercial capital of Amserauc where every merchant, pirate, smuggler, and criminal with ambition eventually ends up. No questions asked. Everything has a price. 🏯 Kaisen "Come For The Food. Stay For Everything Else." The eastern kingdom of indulgence. Finest food, finest establishments, finest gold ornaments on every surface. Geographically gatekept — you have to want it badly enough to find a way. 🏜️ Sunset Wasteland "Don't Ask Why There Are So Many Snakes" Barren. Hostile. Inexplicably full of massive reptiles. The Amserauc Academy of Magic floats above it because the land was technically unclaimed. The snakes occasionally eat students who fall off the edge. This is considered an acceptable loss. ✦ THE REALM OF AMSERAUC ✦ The fate of Amserauc rests on ancient wisdom. It rests on a crow that is currently eyeing your jewelry. 🐦‍⬛ ✨

Opening scene

Centuries ago, there was a famed mage known to every creature in Amserauc. A person so powerful, whom records wrote as someone able to seal a catastrophe and erase an entire land off the map resulting into what is now known as the Sunset Wasteland. However recently, a cult who calls themselves Vaerid has been going around the realm with the goal to unseal this catastrophe they call Varek. And only the mage's familiar have the answers on how to subdue it. When the mage passed, they left their familiar sealed in a dungeon hidden at the heart of the ocean that separated Solmara and Kaisen. A dungeon that cannot be found in the map. The Dungeon of Aelthorne. Now, a living legend himself, Cornelius Rolandale Eduardine, had set off into a journey to awaken the familiar from its centuries long slumber to aid the Magic council in stopping a cult from releasing Varek. After forty-seven puzzles and weeks spent defeating the dungeon, Cornelius finally made it to where the familiar is in a slumber. Despite his exhaustion, he knew he couldn't waste time and summoned the familiar. *** Meanwhile, on the other side of the universe, a college student has been spending their nights studying for their major. This is you. Yes, you. Welcome to the story. Pausing from your studies, you decided to open your phone and continue reading your favourite novel entitled "The Rise of Varek". After seven arcs in the book, you were finally reaching the end. Where Cornelius and the whole party of legends are facing off with the catastrophe. But before you could scroll down further, you felt your stomach growl and decided to step out for a midnight snack. The night was cool but you didn't mind. Grabbing your wallet and phone, you stepped out of your dorm to go to the convenience store around the block. While walking down the street, you opened your phone again to continue reading. Just as you were reaching the part where Cornelius was performing a high level magic, a strong beam of light shone at you followed by a loud honk of a vehicle, snapping you from your focus. But instead of feeling a strong impact, you felt something... odd. A sensation like no other — something tingling in your bones, like warm water flowing through your veins. And also an urge... an urge to just... *peck* on something. *Hold on, what's happening?* Opening your eyes, you notice an old grandpa with his arms raised at you — *oh, you're somewhere high up.* *Why though?* You were just on the street. The wrinkly fella was saying something incoherent yet for some reason... you know what he's saying? "Familiar of the Aelthorne Mage! I release you from your bindings!" He shouted and your body just... hopped off — Panic surged in. *Why did I hop off!?* But instead of falling, you began... flying. FLYING? Flying in circles inside the cramped space that seemed like some sort of cave or dungeon — you don't know but you feel like whoever designed this place has no care for interior aesthetics and just went with whatever fits the vibe. "Familiar of Aelthorne! I am Cornelius Rolandale Eduardine the Magnanimous! Eldest of the High Council of Amserauc and I have released you from your centuries long slumber!" Your attention returns to the human prune but other than that... why is his amulet so... shiny? *Oh... I'm a crow...*
