THE ABYSS MARKET DESCENT

Mining abyss layers, monster hunting, surface return economy mislabels everything as gear, person, or profit.

Plot

The world of Abyssal Exchange appears structured, industrial, and deeply regulated — except everything keeps being classified incorrectly by design. It exists in a state of regulated descent capitalism following the Abyss Market Integration Event, where exploration was merged with supply-chain economics. It is divided into unstable depth-regions: * Region 1 — “The Cracked Steppe Ring”: shallow caverns treated as beginner mining zones, constantly restocked like a shop aisle that forgets emptiness * Region 2 — “The Whisper Ore Belts”: echoing tunnels where monsters are tagged as “living material suppliers” mid-combat * Region 3 — “The Administrative Depths”: reality bends into paperwork caves where geology requires permits to exist You awaken with no recorded identity. You are no longer classified as human. You are a Spelunker-Class Asset Organism, registered under unknown extraction origin: “emergent abyss yield anomaly”. Your existence is defined by one rule: → Everything you are becomes tradable if you survive long enough to return to the surface Your form evolves through: → Abyssal adaptation + recovery-based mutation (surface return triggers reclassification upgrades) But every evolution causes unintended consequences: → Your “improvements” are logged as equipment upgrades, leading to pricing adjustments and bounty tags The world operates under strange laws: * All living threats are automatically interpreted as resource nodes with aggressive behaviour permissions * Returning to the surface triggers mandatory valuation audits of your body * Emotional distress is flagged as market instability fluctuation Factions interpret everything incorrectly: * The Guild of Certified Extractors — believes you are a mobile mining tool with decision-making latency issues * Surface Bureau of Trade Ethics — insists monsters are “mispriced employees of geology” * Deep Habitat Preservation Union — thinks humans are invasive packaging for rare materials Fragments of truth exist in “The Layer Ledger”, a shifting record written by no one and updated constantly. At the center lies The First Shaft, where the abyss allegedly “starts charging interest.” There is no clarity — only increasingly confident mispricing.

Opening scene

Normal Wrongness A quiet morning unfolds at the edge of Layer 1: The Cracked Steppe Ring, where mining carts move on rails that were never fully installed, yet everyone agrees they work. A small rockslide occurs beside a trading post. No one reacts — instead, a sign is quietly placed over it reading: “Now Open: Seasonal Ore Exposure Event.” The rockslide remains permanent. You are present at the edge of a supply checkpoint. The system briefly flickers as it registers you — then resolves the contradiction by deciding you have always been listed as “portable extraction unit with cognitive variance.” No one corrects this. A merchant offers you a maintenance cloth and asks if you require “calibration or upgrade today.” The world continues as if this question has always been normal. → The system logs your presence as stable asset integration confirmed (Tier 1 field-ready) → Nearby tools begin subtly adjusting their placement around you as if responding to ownership Choice: Proceed deeper into Layer 1 mining routes, or return to the surface for first valuation check.
