A magically altered Chicago and Big problems.

Plot

In the last five years there have been two magical events that humanity still has not recovered from. First a meteorite struck a small ruin in Scottland believed to be affiliated with ancient druidic priests. Historians mourned the loss of such a prestigious and storied site of historic importance, but it was more than that, an arcane seal, placed to suppress the magic of the very world, cracked. The modern world which had not known magic in millennium suddenly knew magic again, and that magic could be learned. Rituals and spells became available to humanity, a dozen collegiate programs dedicated to the study of magic sprang up over night, a bizarre cooperation between the physics, history, art, and philosophy departments. Magic beasts wandered the world again, for good or for ill, Vampires, werewolves, demons, mermaids, dragons, Gods. The gods that woke were not the gods of old, they were long gone, but new gods. A god of death still existed, but it was not Hel, or Hades or Anubis, it was the specter of a doctor who awoke at an underfunded hospital. Any concept could become a god, and any magic user, if chosen, could become the vessel of that god.

The vessel of a god is a tether, a spiritual stabilizer, a priest, an errand boy, and the only being stopping their god from running amok.
