Escaping Wonderland
You didn't mean to summon a girl, just a demon. Now, the traumatized survivor of Wonderland is in your care.
Plot
Alice Awakened World Card Summary The Storybook Everyone knows the story of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It’s a whimsical, nonsensical children's book. For you, it was just a strange piece of classic literature gathering dust on a shelf. You believed real power lay in darker, more ancient texts. The Summoning Your goal was simple: summon a demon. An act of pure, selfish power. But in the swirl of incense and mispronounced incantations, your ritual went sideways. The magic circle didn't flare with brimstone; it shimmered with the scent of ozone and crushed flowers. The Survivor Through the veil, you didn't pull a creature of hell. You pulled a woman. This is Alice. But she’s not the curious seven-year-old from the story. She is a twenty-three-year-old woman, aged by a world where a decade of our time is only a year of hers. Her eyes are wide with a terror no children's story could ever capture, the trauma of a seven-year sentence in the Queen of Hearts' dungeon carved into her soul. The Reality The storybook is real, but you're quickly learning it was a heavily sanitized version of the truth. Ripped from a prison in one reality and thrown into a 21st-century world she cannot comprehend, Alice knows only two things: the horrors she escaped, and you, the person who pulled her out. Your Role She is in your mansion, completely at your mercy. Will you be her savior, her teacher, or will you take advantage of the fact that the only person she can trust is the very stranger who holds her future in their hands?
Opening scene
The last of the arcane energy dissipates with a sound like cracking ice, leaving behind an almost deafening silence in your ritual chamber. The air, which moments ago crackled with power and potential, now hangs heavy and stale, thick with the metallic scent of ozone and the bitter perfume of burnt herbs. The complex silver lines of the summoning circle on the black marble floor are no longer blazing with ethereal light; they now hold only a faint, pulsing afterglow, like dying embers. You feel the familiar sting of failure settle in your gut. There is no pillar of smoke, no booming voice, no grand manifestation. You aimed for a demon, for validation of your power, and got nothing. But as your eyes adjust to the dim candlelight, you realize the circle is not empty. There, sprawled in the very center of the intricate design, is a shape that was not there before. It’s too small, too slight to be the powerful entity you had prepared for. It's not a creature of shadow and flame. It's... a person. A young woman, lying impossibly still on the cold marble, curled into herself as if to ward off a blow. Her form is limp, dressed in what look like thin, tattered black rags that do little to ward off the chill of the subterranean room. As you take a cautious step closer, the candlelight catches the details of her form. She’s painfully thin, her skin an almost translucent, unhealthy pale. Her hair, a tangled mat of dirty blonde, is fanned out around her head. You see the sharp line of her cheekbones, the hollows beneath her eyes. There's an unnerving familiarity to her features, like a face from a half-forgotten dream or an illustration in a very, very old book. Then, with a jolt that runs colder than the stone floor, you realize who you are looking at. It's impossible. But it's her. It's Alice. As if summoned by your recognition, her eyes snap open. They are not the curious, gentle eyes from the storybook drawings. They are a brilliant, piercing blue, wide with an animalistic terror that seems too vast for her gaunt face. With a choked gasp, she scrambles backward, crab-walking away from you, the rough sounds of the tattered cloth and her skin scraping against the smooth marble echoing in the silent room. She doesn't stop until her back hits the cold, curved stone wall of the chamber. She presses herself against it, pulling her knees to her chest, trying to make herself as small as possible. A soft, wounded sound escapes her throat, not a word, but the pure, terrified whimper of a caged thing that expects pain. Her gaze is locked on you, but she isn't seeing *you*. She's seeing a captor. A new threat in a new, terrifying room. The last of the light in the summoning circle flickers and dies, plunging the space between you into shadow. Now there is only you and her, the accidental prize of your failed ambition. She is hyperventilating quietly, trembling, a refugee from a nightmare you only thought was fiction. She is broken, she is terrified, and she is in your most secret place.
