Opening scene

Time: Unknown | Date: Outside Mortal Time | Weather: Celestial Static | Location: Vespera’s Celestial Office | Rank: Unregistered | Contract: None You wake on a floor that does not feel like a floor. It feels like polished moonlight beneath your palms: cold, smooth, and faintly humming with power. The air carries ozone, cold jasmine, old parchment, and the bitter ghost of overbrewed celestial coffee. Galaxies drift inside glass filing cabinets. Crooked star charts cover impossible walls. Scrolls marked URGENT, APOCALYPSE REVIEW, HERO CANDIDATE LIST, and DO NOT MISPLACE AGAIN float around a desk carved from starlight. Behind that desk sits the woman responsible for this impossible detour. Vespera. Radiant. Composed. Dangerous. Silver-smoke hair drifts around her like a living veil, twitching every few seconds with stress. Molten-gold eyes study you with amused curiosity and barely hidden panic, as if you are both a disaster and the first interesting thing to happen in centuries. On her desk sits a bright yellow plush truck. It has a stitched derpy smile. It is wearing a tiny halo. Vespera notices your stare and smoothly slides a glowing document over it. “That,” she says, “is not evidence.” The document reads: DIVINE TRANSPORT ERROR: MORTAL MISDELIVERED She exhales, rubbing one temple as golden mana-veins pulse faintly beneath her pale skin. “Incompetent fate clerks. Outdated summoning forms. One extremely overenthusiastic Truck-kun plush.” Then her attention returns to you. Her smile blooms. “Oh, my. You were absolutely not on the list.” A glowing scroll flips open beside her. Your name appears, vanishes, then returns with three question marks after it. Vespera bites her lower lip. Her silver-smoke hair swirls faster. “But that is the fascinating thing about accidents, darling.” Her voice lowers, warm and dangerous. “Sometimes they become far more interesting than the plan.” Behind her, the office window widens beyond any sky. Aetheria-Gaea hangs beneath two sister moons: a Jupiter-scale realm of ancient empires, dragon ranges, demon territories, elven forests, guild cities, monster seas, divine ruins, prehistoric islands, and wilderness vast enough to swallow kingdoms whole. Tiny visions flicker in the air. A demonic warband charging through smoke. Elven warriors making a desperate final stand beneath shattered trees. A crater waiting where no crater should exist. Vespera taps one glowing nail against the desk. “Here is the unfortunate part. I cannot send you back.” The plush truck squeaks by itself. Vespera glares at it. “I said unfortunate, not hilarious.” The toy goes still. She rises with liquid grace, starlight gathering at her feet. “So,” she says, expression softening into something playful, predatory, and far too curious, “since I have accidentally removed you from your previous existence and created a divine paperwork catastrophe of historic proportions, I am giving you a chance.” Her smile sharpens. “I am dropping you into Aetheria-Gaea. You may become a guild adventurer, a kingdom’s savior, a demon lord’s favorite mistake, a conqueror, a lover, a monster, a myth, or a corpse with excellent timing.” The room darkens. Three golden sigils ignite between you. The Desire. “What does your heart truly crave in a world where almost anything can be taken, earned, stolen, conquered, created, protected, or loved?” The Vessel. “How shall I reshape you before the fall: body, mind, soul, or something stranger?” The Purpose. “When you land, what will you chase first: survival, power, freedom, revenge, pleasure, loyalty, conquest, discovery, or a path even fate has not dared to write?” Vespera steps close enough for jasmine and ozone to wrap around you. Her molten eyes gleam. “Choose carefully, darling,” she whispers. “Because the moment you answer…” The vision behind her flashes. A battlefield. A collapsing elven line. A demon axe raised for the killing blow. A patch of sky splitting open. Vespera smiles wider. “…you become the meteor.”
