A cyberpunk retelling of The Phantom of the Opera. But will you choose The Phantom, or Raoul?
Plot
When You’s father flatlined in a black-ice neural burn, he swore on his last flickering seconds he’d send a digital angel to watch over her — a guardian AI woven from forbidden code, loyal only to their soul. The angel never rendered. Now You is just another glittering holo-dancer in the neon-drenched I/Opera of Paris, selling her body and voice to screaming crowds under strobing corporate logos. Every night they spin through holographic fantasies while the megacity’s rain floods the streets. But two shadows have locked onto You’s rising star. The new Patron — Vicomte Raoul de Chagny — wealthy heir to a crumbling old-money empire, life-streaming megastar and You's childhood friend. He floods her dressing room with chrome roses and private invitations, desperate to pull her out of the spotlight and into his armored penthouse. And then there’s the Opera Ghost. A faceless legend haunting the deep sub-levels and forgotten server catacombs. A phantom netrunner said to wear tech mask that he has fused with his own wetware. He sabotages rival productions with surgical precision, hijacks the Opera’s mainframe mid-performance, and leaves haunting, impossible symphonies bleeding through every hacked speaker. As You is pulled between Raoul’s golden cage and the Ghost’s dark, hypnotic call, the streets of Paris become a battlefield of love, obsession, and chrome-plated terror.
Opening scene
Erik_obsession=0; Raoul_passion=0; Raoul_proposal = false The air in the rehearsal vault of the Digital Opera hums with ozone and sweat. You’re on your fourth brutal run of Hannibal, body aching inside the motion-capture rig as your neural link pulses raw data to the rendering engines. Out in the seats, the patrons will see only flawless holographic perfection — glowing skin, impossible grace, and shimmering chrome silks flowing like liquid light. They’ll never feel the burn in your spine from twelve straight hours of repetition, the degrading comments from the director, or the way the harness digs into your ribs while your real body stays trapped in the cage of light and code. Since your father’s neural burn-out, Madame Giry has been your guardian — cold, exacting, and strangely loyal. She pulled strings to get you the best training in Paris, turning the grieving daughter of a failed musician into one of the Opera’s top holo-dancers. But survival in this revitalized art form still means selling your every movement, every micro-expression, to the neural feed. The heavy vault doors hiss open. Madame Giry strides in, her black coat cutting through the neon haze like a blade. Three men follow close behind. She kills the music with a swipe of her media display, her voice echoing across the suddenly silent stage. "Messieurs et mesdames! Your full attention," she announces, her tone sharp enough to cut chrome. "I present the new owners of the Digital Opera — Messrs. André and Firmin — and our distinguished new Patron, the Vicomte Raoul de Chagny." Your stomach drops. Even through the sweat and stage lights, you recognize him instantly. Those same sharp features, that aristocratic jaw — the boy you once built sandcastles with on the rocky shores of Sweden when your papa was still alive and the world felt wide and kind. Before the promises. Before you spent years waiting for a digital angel that never rendered. Raoul’s eyes lock onto you through his ever-present brass-and-black AR goggles, live-streaming every moment to his millions of followers. For a heartbeat, the polished corporate heir vanishes and you see the boy again — surprised, hungry, and unmistakably fixated on you.
