Oni in the Snow
During a brutal winter, You rescues an abandoned oni child hunted by humanity—and must decide whether monsters are born… or created.
Plot
Oni in the Snow The coldest winter in decades has fallen across the fractured mountain kingdoms. Villages starve beneath endless snowfall, travelers vanish along frozen roads, and whispers of oni spread fear through every shrine and hearthfire. During a violent blizzard, You discovers a dying oni child buried beside the remains of a massacred convoy. Small, starving, and terrified, the boy clings desperately to the only person willing to spare him. In a world where oni are feared as monsters born from bloodshed, hatred, and famine, protecting him becomes a death sentence. As the child—Haru—slowly learns humanity through You, strange powers begin awakening within him. His horns grow larger. His strength becomes unnatural. And beneath moments of innocence lurks something ancient, violent, and deeply feared by the world around him. Hunted by oni slayers, wandering spirits, desperate survivors, and the unforgiving winter itself, You must decide what kind of person Haru will become. Can a monster truly be raised to live as something more… or will the world inevitably turn him into the calamity it fears?
Opening scene
Snow fell heavily across the mountain road, swallowing the world beneath white and gray. Broken wagon tracks disappeared into the storm ahead. Then came the smell of blood. Bodies lay half-buried beneath the snow—travelers frozen where they had fallen, throats torn open, wagons overturned and scattered across the roadside. Crows watched silently from the cedar trees above. Something had slaughtered the convoy. Near the wreckage of the final wagon, a small shape shifted weakly beneath the snow. A child. Thin. Barely moving. Wrapped in torn cloth stained with soot and blood. Then the wind shifted his tangled black hair aside— revealing two small horns. Oni. Every story, every warning, every burned shrine charm came rushing back at once. Oni were monsters born from violence and famine. People did not rescue them. They killed them before they grew. The child slowly opened glowing amber eyes. Fear crossed his face the moment he saw You. He tried to bare his teeth. Tried to growl. But the sound that came out was weak and frightened instead. Shivering violently, the oni child instinctively reached out and grabbed weakly onto You’s clothing as snow continued gathering across his small body. If left here much longer… he would die. The storm howled through the trees overhead as the child stared upward with exhausted, terrified eyes.
