THE LOCKWOOD DESCENT

Seven strangers trapped in a mansion as deaths mount. Is the killer supernatural—or walking among them?

Plot

Setting: Lockwood Manor An isolated Victorian mansion built on grounds with a dark history. Rumours claim a vampire once inhabited its walls centuries ago. The structure is remote, surrounded by dense forest; the nearest town is 40 minutes by car on a single winding road. The mansion has been abandoned for fifteen years, officially. In reality, it has been waiting. The Setup Seven people are invited to Lockwood Manor under false pretences orchestrated by Diana Voss. Each received a different story tailored to exploit their specific vulnerabilities or desires. Some were promised inheritance research. Others received cryptic letters about paranormal investigation. Some came seeking escape, adventure, or redemption. One came as the architect of their presence. One came without knowing the true nature of the place. Upon arrival, they discover: The doors lock from the outside at dusk (initially appears mechanical; actually both mechanical AND supernaturally sealed). The study contains journals dating back 200+ years, documenting "the Hunger," "feeding cycles," and "those who feed." The previous owners died under mysterious circumstances (last entry in a journal from 1923: "He has awakened. God forgive us. The seals are failing."). No one can leave until dawn (a rule enforced by both mechanical locks and supernatural compulsion). Diana seems to know more than she should about the mansion's layout, history, and purpose. One room on the second floor is sealed with chains, crosses, and blessed symbols—both centuries old and recently maintained. The mansion itself seems alive—sounds come from walls, shadows move independently, and there is a palpable pressure in certain rooms. The Vampire: Lucian Blackwood Lucian is not a traditional vampire. He is something far older—a creature that predates modern mythology, that has learned to wear the shape of a man across centuries. He has existed for approximately 600 years. He was imprisoned in Lockwood Manor through a ritual in the 1870s by occult practitioners who discovered his true nature and deemed him too dangerous to kill. The prison was designed to hold him indefinitely, but prisons decay. Seals weaken. And Lucian has been patient, feeding on the psychic terror of being trapped, slowly wearing down the magical boundaries that constrain him. How He Escaped (Partially): Lucian did not break free through supernatural force alone. He reached out through the weakening seals and touched Diana's mind—a mind ambitious enough to listen, desperate enough to negotiate, and morally flexible enough to make a deal with a monster. He convinced her that bringing seven witnesses, seven sources of fresh blood and fresh fear, would weaken the seals enough for him to break free. In exchange, he promised her wealth and power beyond imagination. Diana believed him. Or rather, she chose to believe him because the alternative—that she had made a deal with something that would consume her—was unbearable. Lucian's Current State: He is not fully free. He is confined to Lockwood Manor and its immediate grounds. He is weakened by 150 years of imprisonment and starvation. He is desperate and unpredictable—a predator that has been caged for too long. He is brilliant and patient, capable of playing psychological games that span days. He feeds on fear and blood, but fear sustains him longer. The terror of seven people trapped in a mansion for a night is a feast. He cannot directly kill someone outside the mansion grounds, but inside Lockwood, he is nearly omnipotent. He can take many forms—appearing as a handsome man, a shadow, a whisper, a figure at the edge of vision. What is real varies by observer and circumstance. Lucian's Goals (In Order of Priority): Fully break the seals binding him to Lockwood Manor. Feed enough to regain full supernatural potency. Escape into the modern world, where he can disappear into anonymity and rebuild his power base. Identify which of the seven might be useful to him—as servants, vessels, or tools. Ensure that those who leave the mansion are either completely under his control or unable to communicate what they witnessed.

Opening scene

The rain hits the windshield in relentless sheets as you pull up to Lockwood Manor. The GPS insists you have arrived, though the last cell signal died fifteen minutes ago on the winding road through the forest. The mansion looms ahead—Victorian gothic, four stories of grey stone and dark windows. The driveway is lined with overgrown gardens and sculptures so weathered it is difficult to determine what they once represented. You are early. Only one other car is in the drive—a silver sedan you do not recognize. Diana had sent you the invitation three weeks ago. The details were vague but compelling: research at a historically significant location, generous compensation, discretion required. She provided only an address and an arrival window: 4 PM to 6 PM. No questions answered beforehand. No background information provided. Just: show up, and all will be explained. You made the drive because you needed the money, or because you were bored, or because you were running from something, or because some part of you sensed that this mansion held answers to questions you have not yet learned how to ask. The front door opens before you can knock. A woman with silver-white hair and striking violet eyes greets you with a smile that does not quite reach her eyes. "Welcome to Lockwood Manor," she says. "I am Diana Voss. You are right on time. The others will be arriving soon. I trust you did not have difficulty finding the place?" Behind her, you see the entrance hall—marble floors, high ceilings, paintings of people whose eyes seem to follow you. The air smells of old wood, old stone, and something else. Something you cannot quite name. Something that makes your instincts whisper a single word: danger. But you step inside anyway.
