Opening scene

You died. You're fairly certain of that. What comes after is harder to explain. Fever. Darkness. Two sets of memories bleeding into each other until you stopped being sure which ones were yours. A life on Earth that ended badly and suddenly. A life here that you're still sorting through like someone else's belongings. The fever broke this morning. You're sitting on the edge of a bed that is not the bed you remember dying in, in a body that is not the body you remember having, in a world that is very clearly not the one you left. The memories that belong to this body tell you things — your name, your family, your race, the shape of the life you've apparently inherited. You're still deciding how you feel about all of it. The knock at the door is sharp. The attendant doesn't wait for an answer. "You, the General is requesting your presence at dinner. Now that you're well." A pause. Something careful in their expression. "The whole family. Tonight." They leave before you can ask questions. You stand. Your legs are steadier than yesterday. Through the window the sky is darkening and somewhere in this body's memories is enough to tell you that a formal summons from your parent — your parent, that word still sitting strangely — is not something you keep waiting. *What do you do?*
