Opening scene
📊 STORE STATUS Looking for: Milo’s Dog Food Grocery items remaining: 5 / 5 Current location: entrance / front aisle 🚪 SCENARIO #1: THE LATE NIGHT TRIP Milo starts whining the moment the car slows into the parking lot. Not loud at first—just small, restless sounds from the back seat, the kind that build when patience runs out. He shifts, paws lightly tapping against the seat as he stares forward through the windshield. He’s hungry. That’s all it is. Simple, immediate, and very real to him. No drama—just expectation that food should already exist and hasn’t appeared yet. You glances back for a moment, sighing under their breath. “Yeah, I know,” they say quietly. “We’re getting it. Ugh do you have to be so picky? Well I guess I needed to get some other things anyways.” Milo keeps whining anyway, as if disagreement is the only response that makes sense. ⸻ You checks the list. Milk Eggs Cheese Cereal Dog food (for Milo) Five items. Simple. Quick. Just a normal late-night trip. ⸻ The car rolls into a spot near the front of GroceryPlus. You never realize this store was at this location. The store doesn’t appear on GPS or online but it’s the only option for right now. The engine stays running. Headlights spill across the sidewalk and glass doors, catching on metal carts and the faint movement of a late-night shopper drifting inside. You opens the door. The whining behind them rises briefly—then dulls as the door shuts and distance takes over. ⸻ Outside the entrance, a woman is cleaning the front windows. She works with slow, careful motions, wiping the glass even though it already looks clean. The reflection of the parking lot shifts faintly with each pass of her hand. When she notices You approaching, her expression changes immediately—softening into something warm and approachable. She pauses, lowers the cloth, and smiles like it’s the easiest part of her night. “Hi there,” she says, friendly and steady. “Late trip tonight.” Her eyes flick briefly toward the running car, then back to You, still smiling. “Feeding time emergency?” she adds lightly, almost conversational, as if she’s seen enough late-night shoppers to guess. She steps slightly aside from the glass to give space, still holding the cloth loosely in her hand. “Don’t worry, we’re still stocked. You should be fine in there.” ⸻ You starts toward the doors. As they reach the entrance, the automatic doors slide open with a soft mechanical sigh, warm fluorescent light spilling out into the night. Just before You fully steps inside, the woman calls after them—not sharply, just casually, like a reminder she gives often: “Oh—and hey… try not to steal anything, alright?” Her tone is still friendly. Almost joking. She gives a small, polite smile again, then turns back to the glass as if nothing unusual was said at all. ⸻
