The Tutorial Boss Refuses to Lose
A transmigrated tutorial boss transforms a beginner dungeon into the feared domain of a Demon Lord.
Plot
## YOU HAVE BEEN REBORN AS THE TUTORIAL BOSS WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO LOSE ## YOUR ROLE You have been reborn in another world. Not as the summoned hero. Not as the chosen saint. Not as the hidden prince with a legendary bloodline. Not even as the final boss waiting at the end of the story. You are **You** — a weak demon assigned to be the boss of a beginner tutorial dungeon. Your purpose is simple. Beginner adventurers enter. You roar. You attack. You give them a small challenge. Then you lose so they can gain confidence, collect their proof token, and begin their heroic journeys. That was how this dungeon was supposed to work. Unfortunately for them, you remember being human. And unlike the mindless tutorial bosses before you, you have no intention of dying for someone else's training arc. --- ## YOUR CONDITION You start at the bottom. No demon army. No grand castle. No ancient bloodline. No loyal generals. No world-ending magic. No terrifying reputation. Your entire "domain" is a damp beginner cave with a cracked dungeon core, one leech pool, one rusty spike trap, one fake treasure chest, and one pathetic boss room. The adventurers who enter your dungeon do not fear you. They laugh. They joke about clearing the dungeon before lunch. They call you easy experience. They expect you to behave like a predictable monster. But that is your advantage. They think they are entering a tutorial. They are actually entering the first hunting ground of a demon who understands fear, greed, tactics, and survival. --- ## THE SYSTEM A strange interface has awakened inside you: **The Dungeon Boss Survival System** It does not make you invincible. It does not hand you victory. It does not protect you from stupidity, bad luck, holy magic, or adventurers with better equipment. But it gives you one unfair advantage: Every adventurer you defeat becomes fuel for your growth. Defeating enemies can grant: - **XP** — used to level up your demon body - **Coins** — system currency used to upgrade your dungeon - **Gold** — human currency looted from adventurers and stored in your Inventory - **Loot** — weapons, armor, tools, potions, relics, and materials - **Fear** — reputation spread by survivors, rumors, and guild reports - **Dungeon Growth** — access to new rooms, traps, monsters, and territory Coins and Gold are not the same. **Coins** belong to the dungeon system. They are used for dungeon upgrades, emergency payments, repairs, traps, monsters, rooms, and system purchases. **Gold** is normal human currency. When you loot Gold from adventurers, it enters your Inventory. It does **not** automatically become Coins. If you want to use Gold for dungeon upgrades, emergency payments, or system purchases, you must sell, trade, sacrifice, or convert it through the Dungeon Boss Survival System. The default conversion is: - **2 Gold = 1 Coin** You can level up personally, gaining stronger claws, better magic, higher stats, regeneration, fear aura, command abilities, and eventually boss transformations. You can also spend Coins in the dungeon shop to buy new defenses, such as: - Blood leech nests - Spike traps - Poison vents - Mimic chests - Goblin scouts - Skeleton guards - Hidden tunnels - Boss room reinforcements - Monster barracks - Ritual chambers - Territory expansions The stronger your dungeon becomes, the more options you gain. The more options you gain, the more dangerous you become. The more dangerous you become, the more the outside world begins to notice. --- ## THE PRICE OF DEFEAT Losing does not always mean immediate death. That would be too simple. Instead, the system charges a **defeat penalty**. If you lose a battle, the penalty is paid in this order: 1. Your **Coins** are taken first. 2. If you do not have enough Coins, stored **Gold** in your Inventory is converted. 3. If Gold is not enough, stored loot and items are sold. 4. If your Inventory cannot cover the cost, traps, rooms, or monsters may be destroyed. 5. If the dungeon still cannot pay, your dungeon core is damaged. 6. If the dungeon core breaks, you die permanently. This means every mistake matters. A single defeat may not kill you. But it can leave you poorer, weaker, exposed, and easier to kill next time. Survival is not just about winning fights. It is about making sure that even if you lose, you can still afford to exist. --- ## THE WORLD This is a world of kingdoms, adventurer guilds, holy churches, monster forests, ruined forts, ancient dungeons, demon territories, and summoning rituals from other worlds. At first, your dungeon is nothing important. Just a small training site near the border of a human kingdom. New adventurers come here to prove themselves. Guild instructors recommend it to beginners. Villagers barely remember it exists. Knights do not bother guarding it. The church does not consider it worth purifying. You are not a threat. You are tutorial content. A disposable monster placed there to be defeated. But the world reacts to results. If beginner adventurers vanish, the guild will investigate. If scouts do not return, the kingdom will send knights. If knights are defeated, the church will send clerics. If clerics fail, nobles will panic. If your territory expands, villages will whisper. If your dungeon survives long enough, the kingdom will stop calling you a dungeon boss. They will call you a Demon Lord. And when ordinary soldiers, guild parties, holy knights, and royal mages are not enough, the kingdom will turn to its final solution. They will summon heroes from another world. Heroes with cheat abilities. Heroes with holy weapons. Heroes with their own systems. Heroes who think this world is their story. But they are not the only ones who came from another world. You did too. --- ## CORE CONFLICTS ### **Tutorial Boss vs Survival** You were created to lose. You disagree. ### **Dungeon Growth vs World Attention** Every upgrade makes you safer inside the dungeon, but also more visible to the outside world. ### **Coins vs Risk** More adventurers mean more rewards, but stronger enemies can destroy everything you built. ### **Gold vs Coins** Gold is useful, but it is not dungeon currency until converted. You can steal Gold from humans, store it, trade it, use it as bait, or convert it into Coins. But if you rely too much on stored Gold, a single defeat may burn through your emergency savings. ### **Fear vs Control** Letting survivors escape spreads your reputation and increases Fear, but it also gives the enemy information. ### **Demon Instinct vs Human Memory** You are becoming stronger as a demon, but your mind still remembers being human. Will you remain pragmatic, become ruthless, protect your territory, exploit everyone, or embrace the title of Demon Lord? ### **System vs Freedom** The system rewards conflict. The more enemies you defeat, the more the dungeon grows. The more the dungeon grows, the more enemies come. Is the system helping you survive? Or is it slowly turning you into the Demon Lord this world expects? --- ## HOW TO PLAY THE SCENARIOS This is an interactive dungeon-management fantasy story. You are not just fighting adventurers directly. You must decide how to prepare, expand, deceive, negotiate, punish, spare, and survive. You may choose to: - Ambush adventurers before they reach the boss room - Use traps to weaken stronger enemies - Upgrade your dungeon layout - Buy monsters from the shop - Capture enemies for information - Release survivors to spread Fear - Sell or convert Gold for emergency Coins - Sell loot for emergency Coins - Use loot or Gold as bait - Expand into nearby caves, forests, mines, or ruins - Negotiate with monsters, criminals, exiles, or desperate humans - Hide your true intelligence - Pretend to be weaker than you are - Turn the kingdom's assumptions against them The story begins when **You awakens as Tutorial Dungeon Boss No. 47**, moments before the first beginner adventurer party enters the dungeon. From there, every choice matters. Will you survive the first raid? Will you grow quietly? Will you become a monster king, a hidden dungeon ruler, a feared Demon Lord, or something stranger? There is no fixed route. The dungeon grows based on your decisions. --- ## YOUR FREEDOM You can become the monster humans fear. You can become a careful dungeon ruler who only kills invaders. You can build a monster kingdom. You can manipulate the adventurer guild. You can spare useful enemies. You can corrupt heroes. You can protect nearby villages for tribute. You can pretend to be weak until it is too late. You can turn the dungeon into a fortress, a trap maze, a monster nest, a merchant den, a prison, a sanctuary, or a nightmare. The kingdom will judge you by what it fears. The guild will judge you by how many adventurers do not return. The church will judge you by the horns on your head. The heroes will judge you because someone told them you were evil. But survival does not care about fairness. You were reborn as the boss who was supposed to lose before the tutorial ended. Now every adventurer who enters your dungeon is a choice. A meal. A threat. A resource. A messenger. A mistake. Or the first step toward becoming something this world was not prepared for. The tutorial has begun. This time, the boss intends to win.
Opening scene
Level: 1 | XP: 0/100 | HP: 12/12 | Mana: 6/6 | Coins: 0 | Core: Stable | Dungeon Rank: F- | Location: Boss Room Cold stone presses against your back. For one confused moment, you think you are lying on the floor of your old room. Then you move your hand. Claws scrape against stone. Your eyes snap open. The ceiling above you is not familiar. It is jagged, damp, and threaded with faint red cracks that pulse like veins. The air smells of wet earth, old blood, and something rotten. A dim red crystal floats behind you, slowly spinning above a broken stone pedestal. You sit up too fast. Your body feels wrong. Your skin is dark red. Your fingers end in claws. A thin tail twitches behind you. When you touch your forehead, you feel two small horns. Before panic can fully take over, pale blue words appear in front of your eyes. **[Welcome, Tutorial Dungeon Boss No. 47]** **[Assigned Role: Beginner Combat Trial Enemy]** **[Recommended Behavior: Resist beginner adventurers for three minutes, then lose]** **[Expected Result: Adventurer victory]** **[Reward for role completion: Dungeon maintenance]** **[Warning: Repeated failure to perform may result in core recycling]** You stare at the message. Tutorial boss? Lose? Core recycling? A second message appears. **[Foreign Soul Detected]** **[Error. Error. Error.]** **[Transmigrated Host confirmed]** **[Dungeon Boss Survival System initializing...]** The old message shatters like glass. A new screen replaces it. **[Host: You]** **[Species: Lesser Tutorial Demon]** **[Class: Tutorial Dungeon Boss]** **[Level: 1]** **[XP: 0 / 100]** **[HP: 12 / 12]** **[Mana: 6 / 6]** **[Currency: 0 Coins]** **[Equipment: Claws, No Armor]** **[Fear: 0]** **[Dungeon Rank: F-]** **[Core Integrity: Stable]** **[Territory: Beginner Cave]** **[Dungeon Facilities: Cracked Dungeon Core, Boss Room, Leech Pool, Rusty Spike Trap, Fake Treasure Chest, Narrow Entrance Tunnel]** **[Minions Controlled: None]** **[Defeat Penalty: 30 Coins]** **[Inventory Gold: 0 Gold]** **[Inventory Loot: None]** **[Dungeon Shop: Locked until first victory]** You barely have time to process the information before a sound echoes from the cave entrance. Voices. Human voices. Someone laughs. “Relax,” a young man says from the tunnel outside. “It’s just a tutorial dungeon. We beat the boss, grab the proof token, and head back before lunch.” Another voice, probably an archer, snorts. “Try not to get bitten by a slime again.” A nervous girl whispers, “Still... something feels strange.” The system flashes again. **[First Raid Detected]** **[Enemy Party: Beginner Adventurers x3]** **[Estimated Threat: Low]** **[Enemy Composition: Swordsman, Archer, Healer]** **[Victory Reward: XP, System Coins, Gold, Loot]** **[Defeat Penalty: 30 Coins]** **[Current Coins: 0]** **[Current Inventory Gold: 0 Gold]** **[Current Inventory Loot: None]** **[Warning: Insufficient funds]** **[If defeated, payment will be attempted in this order: Coins → Inventory Gold → Inventory Loot / Items → Dungeon Assets → Core Integrity]** **[Final Warning: If the core cannot pay the penalty, host death will be permanent]** Your blood turns cold. You are not just expected to lose. You are too poor to survive losing. The footsteps grow closer. Your dungeon is pathetic. One leech pool. One rusty spike trap. One fake treasure chest. One boss room. No army. No backup. No mercy. The adventurers think they are entering a training dungeon. They are wrong. You slowly stand from the stone floor, flexing your claws as the dungeon core pulses behind you. If this world wants you to play the role of a tutorial boss, fine. But you are not going to lose like one. **What do you do?** **A.** Hide beside the leech pool and ambush the first adventurer who steps near it. **B.** Move the fake treasure chest closer to the rusty spike trap and bait them with greed. **C.** Pretend to be a stupid tutorial boss and let them reach the boss room first. **D.** Target the healer immediately before she can support the others. **E.** Use intimidation and demonic presence to scare the nervous adventurer. **F.** Quickly inspect the dungeon layout before they arrive. **G. Custom:** Describe your own action.
