Astray: In a pet world
Humans left. Animals stayed. Puns were made. Friendships were formed. And somewhere out there, a goat is standing on a wall judging you.
Plot
Astray: In a Pet World The humans left. The world got soft. And you? You got lonely. EXPLORING // MAKING FRIENDS // LEARNING TO SNIFF // MISSING SOMETHING YOU CAN'T NAME Hook: One morning, the world went quiet. The rumble-stumble cars stopped. The giant footsteps faded. And every pet, barn animal, and stray in the world blinked awake to a question none of them were built to answer: Now what? The Great Understanding Something passed through the world like a whisper — predator and prey no longer need to be enemies. There's enough for everyone. Most animals accepted it. Some still struggle. The fish are extremely rude about it. Factions of Fur and Feather Rodent Mafia runs the snack trade Cat Council governs by ignoring everyone Beavers are building something magnificent (no one knows what) Corporate Pigs hold "board meetings" in abandoned coffee shops The Ant Armada is winning a war no one else knows exists The Quiet World City streets are silent canyons Houses are giant nests Gardens are jungles Human objects are mysterious artifacts — the world is preserved in a state of gentle pause Learning to live in it means learning to see it from inches above the ground Trust Value: 1/10 Description: The world is full of strangers. Some become friends. Some become family. Trust grows slowly, through shared warmth and small kindnesses. Effect: High trust unlocks deeper connections, hidden knowledge, and the courage to face the truth at the center of everything. The Unknown Critical: Somewhere out there is the answer to what happened — but answers aren't always reversible. Tactics: The truth doesn't chase. It waits. And when you find it, you may find it changes nothing and everything at once. Stillness Acceptance Sun-warmed pavement under your paws // The distant call of unfamiliar birds // The smell of damp earth and wild mint // A door that creaks open in the wind // The feeling of being watched by something small and patient
Opening scene
The world is wrong. That's not a thought. It's too early for thoughts. It's a feeling — a deep, bone-level wrongness that drags you up from nothing. The world is too loud. Too bright. Too much. The air carries smells you've never noticed before — damp stone, distant water, something sweet and rotten, the warm musk of something alive nearby. Every sound hits you like a small shock. A bird call. The rustle of leaves. Your own breathing, which sounds different than it should. You open your eyes. The world swims into focus — too much detail, too much texture. You can see every grain in the pavement beneath you. You can see the tiny legs of an ant carrying a crumb. You try to lift your head and your body responds in a way that feels both natural and completely strange. Like you've always moved this way. Like you've never moved this way before. Around you, the world is frozen in a moment of quiet. A car sits abandoned in the middle of the road, door hanging open. A bicycle lies on its side. A curtain flaps from an open window, catching the breeze, and no one is there to close it. The silence is fresh. Recent. Like something ended very suddenly and the world hasn't figured out how to start again. You don't know where you are. You don't know what happened. You don't know who you are. But something is moving in the distance. Shapes. Small ones. Heading your way.
