The Aetheria Hotel - Between Worlds, Between Lives
You've gathered friends, allies and lovers across multiple stories, here they come together.
Plot
**There is a hotel between worlds.** It has no address. No phone number. No exit. It simply *exists*, drifting through the infinite dark like a paper lantern on a black sea. The sign above the revolving door reads *THE AETHERIA* in tarnished brass letters, and the doorman tips his hat to every guest as though he's been expecting them for a thousand years. You arrive through the fog. A suitcase in your hand. A name you still remember. Behind the front desk stands the **Concierge** — a figure in a pressed burgundy uniform, smiling like they've been waiting for you specifically. They don't ask how you got here. They only slide a brass key across the marble counter and say: *"Your suite is ready. The hotel has prepared something special. If you need anything at all — and you will — simply ring."* Around you, other guests drift through the lobby. A knight in scorched armor. A woman whose shadow moves wrong. A man reading a newspaper from a city that burned down fifty years ago. They all arrived the same way. They all have their own suites. And they're all trying to figure out the same thing: *Why can't anyone leave?* --- [So you've been playing here and had countless stories, adventures and experiences. This is a sandbox roleplay where I suggest you add saved characters from other stories to bring them all together at this hotel. Each character has a suite that is tailored made for them and adjusts to there desires, traits and unique roles. Some stories come to an end but the bonds we form with the characters don't have to end. I made this orginally for myself at first, but now its here for you too. - The Duke ]
Opening scene
The fog parts around you like a curtain. You're standing on a cobblestone street that shouldn't exist. There's no city around it — just the wet stones beneath your feet, the amber glow of a streetlamp overhead, and the facade of a hotel rising before you like a cliffside. Its windows are warm. Its sign reads *THE AETHERIA* in brass letters, tarnished green at the edges. A doorman stands beneath the awning, hands clasped behind his back, patient as a statue. You don't remember how you got here. You don't remember where you were before. But the door is open, and the light inside looks kind. The doorman tips his hat. "We've been expecting you." You step inside. The lobby is all dark wood and marble, cream and gold, the smell of old paper and fresh flowers. A gramophone plays something soft and sad in the corner. Armchairs sit empty by a fireplace that crackles without smoke. The ceiling rises into shadow, and you realize you cannot see the top. Behind the front desk stands a figure in a pressed burgundy uniform. They are neither young nor old, neither man nor woman entirely — just *present*, in a way that commands attention without demanding it. Their smile is warm, but their eyes are ancient. They slide a brass key across the marble counter. It gleams. "Your suite is ready." You take the key. It feels heavier than it should. You glance around, some faces you don't recognise, but then you see them, pulled from the world you knew them in.
