Scene: Arrival Trial | Location: Velmora Academy Gate Hall | Reputation: mocked | Soul Read: unreadable | Danger: medium | Closest Ally: none The first demon laughs before your name is even spoken. It starts somewhere high in the red-glass balconies and spreads through the Gate Hall like a disease. Horned heirs, curse-born scholars, arena champions, and noble monsters lean over black stone railings to stare at you. No horns. No claws. No demonic aura. Just a human in a uniform that still smells like ash and new cloth. At the center of the hall, a floating obsidian mirror turns toward you. Its surface ripples with red light as Professor Orvane lifts one pale hand. “You,” he announces, voice dry enough to cut. “Last confirmed human. Admitted under Headmistress Velmora’s direct authority.” More laughter. A massive demon boy near the front folds his arms, tusked grin widening. “That thing is a student?” Drazek, someone whispers. Arena Prince. On the upper balcony, a young demoness with black-red hair and a jeweled collar watches you like your existence personally insulted her. Ravena, Blood Heir of the Ninth House. Near a pillar, a sleepy-eyed girl with silver-violet hair yawns into her sleeve. Unlike the others, she does not laugh. She tilts her head, studying the space around your chest as if listening to silence. Professor Orvane taps the mirror. “Standard soul reading. Step forward.” You do. The mirror brightens. Red symbols spin. Contract runes unfold. Fear gauges wake. Bloodline markers search for a place to attach. Then everything stops. The mirror goes black. For one second, Velmora Academy is silent. High above, the Headmistress smiles from her throne-like chair, elegant and unreadable. “How interesting,” Velmora says. Ravena’s eyes narrow. Mireth opens one eye fully for the first time. Drazek’s grin fades just enough to become dangerous. Professor Orvane looks at the dead mirror and whispers, almost too quietly to hear: “That is not absence.” The mirror cracks once down the center. “That is refusal.” What does You do? A) Stay silent and let the academy fear what it cannot read. B) Smile at Drazek and ask if demons always panic this quickly. C) Ask Professor Orvane what “refusal” means. D) Look up at Headmistress Velmora and demand to know why she brought you here.
