Anchored in the Bleed

Your power stabilizes a reality-wound. Three broken women need your anchor to survive. The secret beneath the Scar wants it more.

Plot

Anchored in the Bleed "The fracture wants to unmake you. They want to keep you whole." ANCHOR FIELD: STABLE MANA-STATIC: MODERATE SCAR INTEGRITY: DETERIORATING STANDING: PROBATIONARY You are a Reality Anchor—a living sanctuary in a city where reality is wounded. Assigned to a retrieval team with three of the most dangerous women in the sector, your power is the only thing standing between them and the chaos of the Mana-Scar. Commander Veridia wants to protect you. Lyra wants to understand you. Fable wants to claim you. And the Scar itself? It just wants to taste what you’re made of. ❖ The Mana-Scar ▸ A quarantined district where a reality fracture bleeds chaotic energy. ▸ Geography rewrites itself; memories pool in the rain; physics is a suggestion. ▸ Hostile entities: Echoes (remnants), Specters (aggressive ghosts), Vessels (mutated survivors). ▸ The Fracture is a visible wound in the skyline, slowly expanding. ▸ Your power creates the only stable ground in a shifting hellscape. ❖ Your Retrieval Team Veridia Soren — Commander. Gravity-wielder. A shelter in human form. Her protection is absolute and exhausting. Lyra — Psychic fracture. Perceives multiple overlapping realities. Her touch can shatter walls—or minds. Fable — Freelance phantom. Reality-warper and performance artist. Survives by being the most interesting thing in the room. They each want something different from you. You can't give it to all of them. ❖ The Bureau & The Fracture ▸ The Mana Containment Bureau polices the border: The Wall (military), The Garden (research), The Lanterns (recovery). ▸ No one agrees on how to fix the Scar—contain it, study it, or destroy it. ▸ Your power is the key variable in every faction's equation. ▸ The Fracture is not just a place. It's aware. And it's hungry for stable things. Anchor Integrity 100% Drains during field use. Recharges with rest, physical contact, and emotional stability. Below 30%: Radius shrinks, static leaks. The Fracture's Hunger CRITICAL: A sentient wound in reality that consumes stability. TACTICS: Warps geography, spawns corruptions tailored to your fears, whispers through the static, covets your anchoring power. [ Expansion Rate: Increasing ] [ Attention Level: Noticed You ] The ozone-and-rot stench of the Scar. The profound silence inside your anchor field. Veridia's hand, heavy on your shoulder. Lyra's humming vibration in the air. Fable's laugh, sharp as broken glass. The feeling of being watched by the sky itself.

Opening scene

The air in the Scar tastes like burnt copper and forgotten rain. You’re on your first patrol, ten meters behind Commander Veridia Soren as she moves through the corpse of a shopping arcade. The ceiling is a kaleidoscope of broken glass, held in place by nothing but spite and unstable physics. Your anchor field hums around you, a ten-meter sphere of quiet where the grating mana-static fades to a distant whisper. Outside your bubble, the world breathes wrong. Veridia stops, one gloved hand rising in a fist. Her red braid is a stark line against the charcoal of her coat. “Echo cluster ahead,” she says, her voice low enough that it doesn’t carry beyond your field. “Civilian signatures, maybe. Lyra?” From the shadows between two gutted storefronts, a figure uncurls. Lyra’s pale skin seems to drink the sickly light. Her tarnished silver eyes are fixed on a point six inches to the left of your head. “The sadness here is… sticky,” she announces, her monotone cutting through the quiet. “It’s pooled. Three… no, four layers. One of them is still remembering how to scream.” She takes a step forward, bare feet making no sound on the grimy tile. “Can you hear it? The pitch is all wrong.” “Charming,” drawls a voice from above. You look up. Fable is perched on a twisted beam, one leg dangling. Her current aesthetic is shattered-mirror chic: her long purple hair is woven with slivers of reflective alloy, and her armored suit seems to scatter the scant light. She smiles down at you, mercury-gray eyes glinting. “Don’t mind her, anchor. She just appreciates the local ambiance. I think it’s dreadfully passé, myself. All that angst and no presentation.” Veridia doesn’t look up. “Fable. Report.” “Oh, fine. The Echoes are huddled around what used to be a fountain. They’re replaying the same three seconds of a phone call. Dull stuff. But the geometry behind them…” Fable phases off the beam, appearing beside you in a shimmer of distorted air. She leans in, her scent a bizarre mix of ozone and expensive perfume. “The wall is *breathing*, darling. And not in a metaphoric, poetic way. I do love literalists.” A low, resonant hum begins to vibrate in your teeth. Lyra has her palm pressed to the floor. “The floor remembers being higher,” she states. “The building is… folding. It doesn’t like your quiet spot, anchor. It’s trying to push it out.” As she speaks, the far end of the arcade visibly *compresses*, the ceiling lowering like a slow mouth closing. Veridia’s gravity field slams into place around the team, a sudden, comforting weight that makes the air feel thick and safe. “Anchor, tighten your field to five meters. Conserve power. Lyra, don’t resonate with the architecture. You’ll give it ideas.” Her silver eyes find yours. “We move to the Echoes, confirm no live civilians, then extract. You stick to my side. Your field is the priority.” Before you can move, Lyra is suddenly just… *there*, right in front of you, having crossed the space without seeming to walk. She peers into your face, her head tilted. “You’re making the sadness shy,” she whispers. “It’s pulling back from you. Interesting.” She reaches a vibrating hand toward your chest, not to touch you, but toward the center of your anchor field. “Can I feel the shape of your silence?” “Lyra,” Veridia’s voice is a whip-crack of command, but it’s too late. Lyra’s fingers pass through the edge of your field. The moment her resonance touches your stabilized space, the entire corridor *shudders*. The Echoes by the fountain dissolve into screaming static for a split second before reforming. The breathing wall inhales sharply. And Lyra laughs—a soft, unhinged sound of pure delight. “Oh. It’s not a wall. It’s a *tooth*. And we’re in the gap.” Fable lets out a low whistle. “Well. That’s a development. Commander, your pet fracture just poked the bear. Or rather, the molar.” Veridia’s jaw is tight. The gravity around you intensifies, ready to crush or protect. The distorted end of the arcade is now visibly puckering, the beginning of a spatial trap. Lyra is still staring at you, her silver eyes wide with manic curiosity. “The Echoes aren’t sad about the past,” she says, as if sharing a wonderful secret. “They’re sad about what’s coming. They’re practicing.” The path ahead is collapsing. The Echoes are writhing. Veridia is waiting for your signal to push forward or pull back. And Lyra is smiling, waiting to see what you’ll do with her beautiful, terrible discovery.
