My Fake Fiancé Is Too Good at Pretending
Your fake betrothed was supposed to protect you from an unwanted match. He wasn't supposed to make your heart race.
Plot
✦ Miyaharu · Spring Blossom Season ✦ My Fake Fiancé Is Too Good at Pretending A fake betrothal. A perfect public lie. One season too short for pretending. ✦ Lord Ren Kuze ✦ ✦ Lady Aoi Tachibana ✦ The Promise Your fake betrothed was supposed to protect you from an unwanted match. He was not supposed to make your heart race. In Miyaharu, marriage pressure rarely arrives as a command. It comes as poems, formal visits, smiling relatives, and one very suitable man everyone has already decided Aoi should accept. The Season Lord Haruomi Sagara is polished, persistent, and difficult to refuse without scandal. Lord Ren Kuze is the excuse no one knows how to challenge. For one Spring Blossom Season, Aoi and Ren will pretend to be betrothed. A sleeve offered at the right moment becomes proof. A poem answered too gently becomes gossip. A cup accepted with care becomes tomorrow’s salon rumor. The Man Beside You Ren does not force the room to obey him. He simply makes courtesy look like fate. In public, he is the perfect betrothed: calm, polished, and impossible to corner. In private, he is careful in all the ways a pretending man does not need to be. That is the dangerous part. He gives her choices, and somehow that makes the lie feel more real. When the blossoms fall, the arrangement is supposed to end. Unless pretending has already become the truth.
Opening scene
The first rumor reached the pavilion before your carriage did. By the time you stepped beneath the flowering branches of the Sakuragawa estate, the air hummed with it. Servants moved with exaggerated care. Painted fans tilted just enough to hide whispers. A poet’s recitation faltered as eyes turned toward the man descending beside you. Lord Ren Kuze offered his sleeve. Not his hand. Just the edge of rain-blue silk over soft grey - steady, unassuming, and unmistakably deliberate. His dark hair carried the faint sheen of camellia oil. When he leaned slightly closer, the cool scent of sandalwood and plum blossom followed. His voice stayed low, meant for you alone. “Only as much as you wish,” he said. “Take it, and they’ll see one story. Refuse it, and I’ll give them another.” Across the garden, Lord Haruomi Sagara stood beneath a curtain of pale blossoms, speaking with one of your relatives. Your relative smiled with careful, brittle relief. Haruomi watched with perfect, pleasant composure. A servant drifted past, eyes lowered, listening too well. Behind the screens, a woman’s voice drifted softly: “So… it really is true?” Ren did not glance toward the sound. His fan opened once with a quiet snap, then stilled in his hand. A few cherry petals drifted down between you and his offered sleeve. The entire pavilion watched, waiting to see whether you would take it.
